Sporting Leagues Continue in Mixed Weather

Pro Sporting League Round 3

The third round of The Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in wet and misty conditions but the shooters stayed dry shooting under the new shelters built over the past year.

The leader after the first 25 was John Moore with 23 points in second place on 21 were Will Rand and C class shooter Mark Sweetman. Leading B class were Steven Craine and son Calum with 20 points. After the second round in C class Brian Kelly finished in third place on 28 points with lady shooter Nicky Barnett taking second place with 31 points but the run away winner of  C class with 40 points was Mark Sweetman.

In B class Brian Faragher was third on 41 points with Calum Craine in second place on 42 but winning B class and overall highgun was Rob Corlett with 43 points. We had a three way tie for first place in A class between the first round leader John Moore, Stan Cross and Peter Kelly who had a 25 straight in his second round

English Sporting League Round 3

In the afternoon the third round of the Suntera Global Sporting League was held in dry sunny conditions.

We had a three way tie after the first stand between A class George Davies and B class shooter Stan Cross and Will Rand with perfect ten’s. We still had a three way tie after the second stand but this time it was between George Davies and B class Rob Corlett and Peter Kelly all on 19 points followed by Will Rand, Brian Faragher and unclassified Calum Craine on 18.

After stand three we still had a tie for first place between Will Rand and Rob Corlett with 27 points, in third place on 26 was Peter Kelly with George Davies and Brian Faragher next on 25. It was till a tie for first place after stand four between Rand and Corlett on 34 points but not far behind in third place was Stan Cross on 32.

With all to play for on the last stand Rand and Corlett scored 7 but Cross scored 9 to make it a three way tie for first place in B class on 41 points. George Davies was the leading A class shooter with 39 points with Ben Richards in second place on 33 and taking third in A was Jack Clague on 27. In C class Mark Sweetman made it a double by winning both C class’s on the day with 26 points, Rob Marshall was second in C with 24 points and Alan Wright was third with 21 points.

A big thank you must go to Will Rand and Brian Faragher for setting the course’s up which were well received by all.

Mihailovits and Cross in Shoot-off

Cross Skeet Doubles

The Cross Doubles Championship kindly sponsored once again by the Cross family was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 18 competitors taking part in windy but sunny dry conditions.

At the half way stage we had a tie for first place between Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross on 50 points with junior Zac Bellhouse and veterans Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly tying for third place on 47, followed by Giulio Fabrizio in sixth place on 46. The leading lady was Rachael Bowen Matthews on 41.

After the second fifty Rachel Bowen Matthews was the leading lady with 83 points and Zac Bellhouse was the leading junior on 84 points with Joe Faragher in second place on 73. The leading veteran was Paul Mihailovits with 95 points.
We had a tie for third place overall between Stan Cross,Dave Corlett and Jeff Corkill on 88 points but we had a tie for first place between the half way leaders Michael Cross and Paul Mihailovits on 95, so a shoot off was required to find a winner.

The shoot off consisted of two pairs on stand four shooting high house first then low house first. They both hit all four targets in the the first round of four but ten in the second four Paul missed the low target on the second pair which opened the door for Michael which he duly took hitting all four targets to claim the championship by one point – well done Michael.

In the team event Will Rand & Dave Corlett and Giulio Fabrizio & Peter Kelly were in equal third place on 173 Paul Mihailovits & John Moore were second on 176 with Stan and Michael Cross taking the team prize with 183 points.

Mihailovits Rises Again for Easter

The second round of the Colin Bowen memorial English skeet league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in calm dry conditions which also had the added incentive of having the Easter Highgun and Easter Handicap cups up for grabs.

Before shooting commenced a shot gun salute was held in memory of Richie Radcliffe, a long time member of the club who passed away on Tuesday 12th April and will be sadly missed by all at the club.

After the first round we had a three way tie for first place between Jeff Corkill, Michael Cross and Paul Mihailovits who all hit 25 straights followed by George Davies who was the leading B class shooter along with Rachel Bowen Matthews and Giulio Fabrizio on 24. The leading C class shooter was junior Zac Bellhouse on 23.

After the second round Wayne Barsby finished in third place in C class with 30 points in second place on 39 was Rob Marshall but taking C class with a well shot 43 was junior Zac Bellhouse. In B class Peter Fabrizio and Brian Faragher tied for third place with 42 points with junior David Cowin taking second place on 46 but winning B class with 47 points was George Davies. We had a three way for second place in A class between Jeff Corkill, Michael Cross and Rachael Bowen Matthews with 49 points but top of the class with a perfect 50 straight and retaining the Stan Cross Highgun cup with the same score as last year was Paul Mihailovits.

In the handicap section the winner of the George Costain memorial handicap cup was newcomer Wayne Barsby with 56 points.

Fifteen carried on to complete a 100 targets which included the Colin Bowen Team cup. The winners of the the team cup were Michael Cross and John Moore with a final total of 192 ex 200 with Paul Mihailovits and Andy Morgan in second place on 189 and coming in third place were Stan Cross and Jeff Corkill on 188.

In the 100 league Michael Cross was the winner with 98 points one ahead of Will Rand in second place on 97 with Paul Mihailovits and Jeff Corkill taking equal third place on 96.

DTL Round Two

The second round of the Tower Insurance DTL league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 20 competitors taking part in dry calm but cool conditions. It also included the IOM Goats highgun cup and the Jack Harrison handicap cup.

The leader after the first round was ever green John Moore with a perfect 25/75, in equal second place also with straights but with one second barrel kill were Mark Riley, Alan Wade and junior Arran Wade. The leading B class shooter was Dave Corlett with Will Rand leading C class with 66 points.

After the second round Mark Sweetman was third in C class with 120 points with Rob Marshall taking second place on 132 but taking C class with 135 was the first round leader Will Rand. We had a tie for second place in B class between Rob Corlett and Stan Cross on 135, Rob had a perfect 25/75 in his round, but pipping them by one point and taking B class was Calum Craine with 136 points.

In A class Phil Ward finished in third place on 144 but we had a tie for first place between John Moore and Alan Wade and because there was a cup on it a shoot off was required. In the shoot off Alan missed his first target but that was all and finished on 72 points while John also missed a target but had two second barrel kills for 70 points so Alan was the winner of the IOM Goats Highgun Cup. In the handicap section Rob Marshall was third on 160 with Will Rand taking second place on 162 but the winner with 175 points was Mark Sweetman.

ATB Round Two

In the afternoon the second round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league was held and leading after the first round was the man in form Alan Wade along with Rob Watterson who both shot  25 straights, in third place on 23 was Mark Riley With the light getting duller the scores were not as high in the second round but Alan Wade defied that and scored 24 to finish in first place on 49, Mark Riley finished in second place on 47 with Rob Watterson taking third place on 46. The handicap winner with 49 points was Phil Ward.

The second round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league was also held and the winner was Stan Cross with 47 points in second place on 46 was James Bradley with Giulio Fabrizio taking third place on 41.

Cross, Wade and Davies Dominate

Suntera Global English Sporting League

The second round of the Suntera Global English Sporting League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in cold but dry conditions.

Fast out of the traps on the first stand was Alan Wade who shot a perfect 10 to lead from Michael Cross and George Davies by one on 9 with Peter Kelly, David Morgan and junior Zac Bellhouse next on 8. We had a three way tie after stand two with Wade, Cross and Davies all tying on 16 followed by Stan Cross, Will Rand and Dave Corlett on 15.

We sill had a three way tie after stand three with Cross and Davies being joined by Stan Cross on 25, John Moore was next on 24 with Wade, Corlett and Kelly next on 23. It was all change after stand four with Davies in the lead on his own with 34 points followed by the Cross’s Stan and Michael on 33 with Moore and Corlett next on 32.

After the fifth and last stand Mark Sweetman finished in third place in C class on 23 but we had a tie for first place between Rob Marshall and Brian Kelly with 25 points each. In B class Brian Faragher finished in third place on 36 one point ahead in second place was Will Rand but taking B class with a well shot 39 was Stan Cross. Alan Wade was third in A class with 39 points with Michael Cross second on 40 but A class winner and overall highgun was George Davies with 41 points.

Pam & Dave Corlett Pro Sporting League

In the afternoon the second round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting league was held again in dry but cool conditions.

The leader after the first 25 was Alan wade with a well shot 22 who lead by three from George Davies and Peter Kelly on 19 followed by Stan Cross, John Moore and junior Joe Faragher on 18 who was the leading B class shooter at this stage. Leading C class was Mark Sweetman with Brian Kelly second on 14.

After the second 25 Brian Kelly finished in third place in C class with 27 points, in second place on 28 was lady shooter Allana Wade with Mark Sweetman taking first place on 29. Mark Barnett was third in B class with 35 points with Brain Faragher taking second place on 37 but winning B class with a well shot 39 was newcomer Calum Craine. George Davies was third in A class with 36 points with Stan Cross taking second place on 37 but highgun and A class winner was Alan Wade on 40.
