Double Sporting Win for Richards

The fourth round of the Pam and Dave Corlett Pro Sporting League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in dull, breezy but dry conditions. Also up for grabs on the day were the Dave and Pam Corlett Highgun Cup as well as the Meary Veg Pro Sporting Handicap cup.

The leader after the first layout was junior shooter Joe Faragher with 21 points, in second place on 20 was Dave Corlett with Brian Faragher and John Moore in equal third place on 19 followed by Ben Richards, George Davies and Peter Kelly on 18. At the end of the second round Nicky Barnett was C class winner with 30 points. In B class Will Rand was third on 38 with junior Joe Faragher second on 39 but taking B class with 40 points was Brian Faragher.

In A Class John Moore was third on 39 with Dave Corlett taking second place on 40 but the star of the show was Ben Richards who hit 24 in his second round to take A class and win the Dave and Pam Corlett highgun cup with 42 points – well shot Ben. In the handicap section Nicky Barnett was the winner with 58 points two ahead of Brian Faragher and three ahead of Will Rand in third place.

English Sporting

In the afternoon the fourth round of the Suntera Global Sporting League was held again in dull, breezy, dry conditions. The joint leaders after the first stand were Peter Kelly, Ben Richards, Rob Corlett and Paul Mihailovits with 6 points each. After stand two we still had a tie for first place between Peter Kelly and Ben Richards on 10 points followed by five shooters on 9 points.

Ben Richards was in the lead on his own after stand three with 19 points followed by Peter Kelly 17 with Brian Faragher and Dave Corlett next on 16. Richards was still in the lead after stand four on 25 points but Kelly had closed the gap to one point  with Rob Corlett and Dave Corlett two behind on 23. It was status quo after stand five with Richards leading on 33, Kelly second on 32 and it was John Moore in third place on 29.

After the sixth and last stand Nicky Barnett was in second place in C class with 27 points with Rob Marshall taking C with 28 points. Brian Faragher was third in B class with 31 points, John Moore was second on 33 with Rob Corlett taking B class with 34 points. Paul Mihailovits was in third place in A class with 34 points with Peter Kelly taking second place on 38 but top of the class with 40 points and making it a double win was Ben Richards.

August Starts with Skeet

Colin Bowen Memorial League

The third round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 20 competitors taking part in dry but difficult light conditions, with the added incentive of the Wilf Cannell handicap cup up for grabs.

The joint leaders after the first round were Rachael Bowen Matthews and trap shooter Mark Riley with 25 straights, in third place on 24 was Brian Faragher with Stan Cross next on 23 followed by Peter Kelly, Dave Corlett, Irene Stockil and Giulio Fabrizio on 22. After the second round Barry Jones was third in C class with 29 points with Steven Rand taking second place on 35 but taking C class with 40 points was junior shooter Zac Bellhouse.

We had a four way tie for first place in B class with Peter Kelly, Brian Faragher, Mike Walker and lady shooter Irene Stockil all tying on 44. We had a tie for third place in A class between Paul Mihailovits and Dave Corlett on 45, in second place on 46 was Mark Riley but the star of the day and taking A class  with a fifty straight was Rachael Bowen Matthews – well shot Rachael!

In the handicap section for the Wilf Cannell Handicap cup the runaway winner with 60 points was junior shooter Zac Bellhouse – well done Zac. Fifteen shooters carried on to complete a 100 targets and the winner with 95 points was Rachael Bowen Matthews, in second place on 94 was Mark Riley with John Moore and Paul Mihailovits in equal third place on 91.

2021 CM Partners Grand Prix

Five Blazing Rounds of Skeet

The annual CM Partners sponsored English Skeet GP over 125 targets was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in very hot and humid conditions.

We had a seven way tie for first place after the first round with Dave Corlett, Stan Cross, Giulio Fabrizio, Arthur Hayes, John Moore, Peter Kelly and Madeleine Simpson all scoring 24. After round two we only had three shooters tying on 48; Dave Corlett, Stan Cross and Giulio Fabrizio. We had a lone leader after round three with Stan Cross hitting a 25 straight to lead with 73 points one ahead of Dave Corlett and Giulio Fabrizio on 72 with Paul Mihailovits, John Moore and Rachael Bowen Matthews next on 71.

It was all change after round four with Dave Corlett now back in the lead on 97 but we had a three way tie for second place on 96 between Stan Cross Rachael Bowen Matthews and Paul Mihailovits. Tying for fifth place on 94 were Arthur Hayes and Giulio Fabrizio. For the fifth and final round the shooters were placed in reverse order with the best shooters shooting last, and at the end of the round we had a three way tie for second and third in A class between Stan Cross, Giulio Fabrizio and Arthur Hayes who all finished on 118, and also a three way tie for high gun and runners up between Dave Corlett, Paul Mihailovits and Rachael Bowen Matthews who shot 120.

In the shoot off for second and third places in A class Stan Cross shot 23 to take second place but Giulio and Arthur were still tied on 22 so sudden death was required the decide the third place. After 14 targets each Giulio took third place in A with 11 points to Arthur’s 10. In the shoot off for high gun Dave Corlett claimed top spot shooting 24 to Paul’s and Rachael’s 23, but sudden death was also required to fined a runner up and Paul took the spot hitting all four targets to Rachael’s three on the first round of doubles.

Sunny Saturday Skeet and Trap

Saturday 24th July proved another busy day for the club as we ran the third rounds of our ABT and Olympic Skeet leagues, catching up with fixtures impacted by the third lockdown earlier this year.

Olympic Skeet

The third round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic Skeet League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, on Saturday afternoon in very hot conditions.

Joint leaders after the first round were Stan Cross and Jeff Corkill on 21 with junior Michael Cross in third place on 20. After the second round Stan Cross was in third place on 41 with Jeff Corkill taking second place on 42 but top of the class with 43 points hitting a 23 in his second round was Michael Cross.

ABT

The third round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT League was also held and leading the way with a 25 straight was veteran Peter Kelly. In second place on 24 was Alan Wade with Neil Parsons and Stan Skinner in equal third place on 23 followed by junior Arran Wade on 22. Making up the top six was Jack Clague on 21.

The high scoring was maintained in the second round with Stan Skinner hitting 24 to finish in third place on 47, one point ahead on 48 and recording a 25 straight in his second round was Neil Parsons. Top of the class with 49 points was Peter Kelly.

Manx Sporting Championship

Parsons on Point for 2021

The Sadler Agricultural Supplies IOM Sporting Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 26 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions. A testing course of twelve stands greeted the competitors, shot in two laps of six with singles, report pairs, instant pairs and trailing pairs.

The leader at the half way stage was Alan Wade with 40 points. In second place on 39 was Dave Corlett with Neil Parsons in third on 38. Nigel Moffatt was fourth on 37 followed by John Moore in fifth place on 36 and making up the top six were Ben Richards and Jack Kneen on 35.

At the end of the second lap Nicky Barnett was the winner of C class with 41 points and also took second place in the ladies section, with first going to Corina Moffatt on 50. Arran Wade was second in the junior class with 62 points but Joe Faragher just beat him by one point for the junior prize scoring 63.

In B class a shoot-off was required to find out who claimed second place between Jack Clague and George Davies who both scored 66, Jack was the  winning of the shoot off scoring 7 to Georges 5. The winner of B class was John Moore on 71 . We also had a three way tie for the runners up spot in A class between Nigel Moffatt, Alan Kinrade and Jake Keeling, all on 72 with Alan coming out on top hitting 9 to Jakes 7 and Nigel’s 5. The winner of A class with 73 points was Alan Wade.

Third place overall went to Ben Richards on 74 with Dave Corlett taking the runners up spot with 75 points but the new IOM Sporting Champion for 2021 is Neil Parsons with 77 points – well done Neil!
