Three Days of Clays round off August

It was another busy week end at Meary Veg with no less than four competitions taking place.

English Sporting

First up was the fifth round of the Suntera Global Sporting League on Bank Holiday Friday morning with sixteen competitors taking part in near ideal conditions. The joint leaders after the first stand were Peter Kelly and junior Michael Cross with perfect 10’s, in third place on 9 was Dave Corlett . Cross maintained his perfect start by clearing the second stand as well to have a running total on 18 with Kelly in second place on 16 followed by Dave and Rob Corlett on 15. Cross was still in the lead after stand three on 21 with Rob Corlett and Kelly now in equal second place on 17.

It was status quo after stand four with Cross on 28 followed by Kelly and Corlett on 24. With another perfect score on 10 on stand five Cross stretched his lead to 6 with a running total on 38, in second place now on 32 was John Moore with Corlett and Kelly in equal third place on 31. After the sixth and last stand Alan Wright was second in C class on 25 with lady shooter Nicky Barnett taking the class prize with 26 points.

Will Rand finished in third place in B class with 35 points with John Moore taking second place on 37 with Rob Corlett claiming first place on 38. Alan Wade was third in A on 38 with Dave Corlett taking second place on 39 but the overall winner by five points was junior Michael Cross with 44 points.

Pro Sporting

In the afternoon of the Bank Holiday Friday the fifth round of the Dave & Pam Corlett Pro Sporting League was held with 17 competitors taking part again in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the fist lay out was Alan Wade with 24 points followed by Paul Mihailovits, Peter Kelly and junior Michael Cross on 23 with Brian Faragher next on 22 and making up the top six was Rob Corlett on 21. At the end of the second layout Alan Wright was once again in second place in C Class with 20 points with Nicky Barnett taking the class prize on 23.

Peter Kelly was third in B class with 36 points with Brian Faragher taking second place on 38 but with a well shot 43 Paul Mihailovits was the B class winner. Dave Corlett and John Moore were in equal third place in A class on 35 points with Stan Cross taking second place on 37 but winning A class and the overall winner with 44 points was Alan Wade.

English Skeet

The next competition was the forth round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League which also had the Cesar Leonetti handicap cup up for grabs.

The leader after the fist round was B class shooter Ted Kermeen with the only 25 straight of the round, we then had six shooters tying for second place on 23. In the handicap section Barry Jones was in the lead on 29 points with Ted Kermeen in second place on 28 and half a point back in third place on 27.5 points was junior David Cowin.

After the second round Barry Jones finished in third place in C class with 32 points, in second place on 33 was Nicky Barnett with Steven Rand taking the class prize with 41 points. In B class Madeleine Simpson and David Cowin were in equal third place on 44 with Peter Kelly taking second place on 45 courtesy mainly to having a straight in his second round. The winner of B class was first round leader Ted Kermeen on 48 which was also equal High Gun.

John Moore and Paul Mihailovits were in equal third place in A class on 47 and were also had a tie for first place between Stan Cross and Giulio Fabrizio on 48. In the handicap section for the Leonetti Handicap Cup we had a three way tie for second place between Ted Kermeen, Steven Rand and Barry Jones on 54 points but taking the cup with 55 was junior David Cowin.

Sporting Medley

The final competition of the Bank Holiday weekend was the club’s Sporting Medley sponsored by  Juan Cowley, and saw nineteen shooters taking to the stands in dry but cool conditions.

The leader after the first layout of Super Sporting were veteran Dave Corlett and juniors Michael Cross and  David Cowin on 17 followed by Will Rand and junior Arran Wade on 16 and making up the top six was Mark Barnett on 14.

The next layout was English sporting and we had a new leader in junior David Cowin on 41 with Michael Cross in second place on 40 followed by Dave Corlett in third place on 38.

The final layout was Pro Sporting  and at the end Orry Watterson finished in third place in C class on 37 with Alan Wright taking second place on 42 but winning C class with 54 points was David Cowin.

Arran Wade and Mark Barnett finished equal third in B class on 50 points, one point ahead on 51 in second place was Brian Faragher with Will Rand taking B class with 55 points. Peter Kelly finished in third place in A class on 44 with Alan Wade and Dave Corlett in equal first place on 57 but the Sporting Medley Champion for 2021 went to junior Michael Cross with 58 points – well done Michael!

Riley Strong for League Weekend

Tower Insurance DTL

It was another busy Sunday at Meary Veg, Santon, with three competitions taking place. First up was the third round of the Tower Insurance DTL League with 14 shooters taking part in nice dry calm conditions. The leader after the first round was John Moore with a 25/73 straight, in second place on 72 was junior Arran Wade with Mark Riley and Mike Walker next on 71 followed by Alan Wright, Peter Lowe and Rob Corlett all on 65.

At the end of the second round Allana Wade was in second place in C class with 95 points but taking C class 121 points was Rob Marshall. We had a tie for second in B class between Rob Corlett  and Giulio Fabrizio on 127 points but taking B class with 129 points was Peter Lowe.

In A class Mike Walker was third on 141 with junior Arran Wade taking second place on on 142 but top of the class with a fifty straight for 145 points was Mark Riley.

Manx Petroleum Olympic Skeet

In the afternoon the fourth round of Manx Petroleum’s Olympic Skeet League was also held which had the Parkinson Highgun cup up for grabs. The leader after the first round was veteran Peter Fabrizio with 17 point followed by son Giulio and junior Joe Faragher on 15.

After the second round we had a three way tie for third place between Ted Davis, Brian and Joe Faragher on 27 in second place on 29 was Giulio Fabrizio but turning back the years in first place  was Peter Fabrizio  with 33 points which also earned him the Parkinson Highgun Cup.

Sadler Agricultural ABT

The final shoot of the day was the fourth round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT League. In equal first place after the first round were Mark Riley and Arran Wade on 22 with Stan Skinner in third place on 21 with Peter Lowe in fourth place on 20. At the end of the second round Arran Wade was in third place on 37 with Stan Skinner repeating his first round score of 21 to take second place on 42 but the winner with 44 points was Mark Riley.

An All-Round Great Day

Parsons on Top for Club Championship

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club held their Club all-round Championship kindly sponsored by Manx Petroleum with 22 competitors taking part in dull but dry conditions. The championship is held over one round of all the disciplines shot in the summer leagues.

The leader after the first two disciplines, English Skeet and DTL was Mark Riley with 145 points, in second place on 143 was John Moore with Jeff Corkill in third place on 140, Neil Parsons was fourth on 139 followed by Stan Cross in fifth place on 138 and making up the top six was Peter Kelly on 137.

The next two disciplines were ABT and Olympic Skeet saw John Moore take the lead with 275 points seven ahead of Neil Parsons in second place on 268 with Mark Riley third on 262. In fourth place was Jeff Corkill on 254 followed by Brian Faragher in fifth on 250 and making up the top six was Peter Kelly on 248.

The final discipline was English Sporting which was shot in reverse order. In the ladies section Nicky Barnett was second on 204 but taking the ladies title with 208 points was junior Allana Wade. Third in the junior section was David Cowin on 239 with Joe Faragher taking second place on 260 but retaining his junior title with 313 points was Michael Cross. In C class David Cowin was the winner with Allana Wade taking second place and Orry Watterson taking third place.

In B class Michael Cross was the winner on 313 with Brian Faragher taking second on 310 followed by Jeff Corkill in third place on 299. In A class Mark Riley was third on 304 with Peter Kelly taking second place on 311, in first place on 326 and also taking the veterans championship was John Moore but top of the class taking the Club All Round Championship and the senior championship with 328 points was Neil Parsons.

Double Sporting Win for Richards

The fourth round of the Pam and Dave Corlett Pro Sporting League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in dull, breezy but dry conditions. Also up for grabs on the day were the Dave and Pam Corlett Highgun Cup as well as the Meary Veg Pro Sporting Handicap cup.

The leader after the first layout was junior shooter Joe Faragher with 21 points, in second place on 20 was Dave Corlett with Brian Faragher and John Moore in equal third place on 19 followed by Ben Richards, George Davies and Peter Kelly on 18. At the end of the second round Nicky Barnett was C class winner with 30 points. In B class Will Rand was third on 38 with junior Joe Faragher second on 39 but taking B class with 40 points was Brian Faragher.

In A Class John Moore was third on 39 with Dave Corlett taking second place on 40 but the star of the show was Ben Richards who hit 24 in his second round to take A class and win the Dave and Pam Corlett highgun cup with 42 points – well shot Ben. In the handicap section Nicky Barnett was the winner with 58 points two ahead of Brian Faragher and three ahead of Will Rand in third place.

The joint leaders after the first stand were Peter Kelly, Ben Richards, Rob Corlett and Paul Mihailovits with 6 points each. After stand two we still had a tie for first place between Peter Kelly and Ben Richards on 10 points followed by five shooters on 9 points.

Ben Richards was in the lead on his own after stand three with 19 points followed by Peter Kelly 17 with Brian Faragher and Dave Corlett next on 16. Richards was still in the lead after stand four on 25 points but Kelly had closed the gap to one point  with Rob Corlett and Dave Corlett two behind on 23. It was status quo after stand five with Richards leading on 33, Kelly second on 32 and it was John Moore in third place on 29.

After the sixth and last stand Nicky Barnett was in second place in C class with 27 points with Rob Marshall taking C with 28 points. Brian Faragher was third in B class with 31 points, John Moore was second on 33 with Rob Corlett taking B class with 34 points. Paul Mihailovits was in third place in A class with 34 points with Peter Kelly taking second place on 38 but top of the class with 40 points and making it a double win was Ben Richards.

Colin Bowen Memorial League

The third round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 20 competitors taking part in dry but difficult light conditions, with the added incentive of the Wilf Cannell handicap cup up for grabs.

The joint leaders after the first round were Rachael Bowen Matthews and trap shooter Mark Riley with 25 straights, in third place on 24 was Brian Faragher with Stan Cross next on 23 followed by Peter Kelly, Dave Corlett, Irene Stockil and Giulio Fabrizio on 22. After the second round Barry Jones was third in C class with 29 points with Steven Rand taking second place on 35 but taking C class with 40 points was junior shooter Zac Bellhouse.

We had a four way tie for first place in B class with Peter Kelly, Brian Faragher, Mike Walker and lady shooter Irene Stockil all tying on 44. We had a tie for third place in A class between Paul Mihailovits and Dave Corlett on 45, in second place on 46 was Mark Riley but the star of the day and taking A class  with a fifty straight was Rachael Bowen Matthews – well shot Rachael!

In the handicap section for the Wilf Cannell Handicap cup the runaway winner with 60 points was junior shooter Zac Bellhouse – well done Zac. Fifteen shooters carried on to complete a 100 targets and the winner with 95 points was Rachael Bowen Matthews, in second place on 94 was Mark Riley with John Moore and Paul Mihailovits in equal third place on 91.
