English & Olympic Skeet

The final fixture of the summer series which was a combined English and Olympic skeet shoot. 12 shooters took part in near ideal conditions with Mike Whitehead being the keenest, turning up well before 9am (forgot about the clock)

The joint leaders after the English skeet section were Jeff Corkill and Roman Sammer with 24 points, in equal third place on 23 were John Moore and Michael and Stan Cross with Giulio Fabrizio, Liam Kirkpatrick and Mike Walker next on 22.

After a short break the Olympic skeet got under way and finishing in joint fourth place with 39 points were Giulio Fabrizio and Roman Sammer in third place on 42 was Jeff Corkill with Stan Cross taking second place on 43 but top of the shop with 45 points was Michael Cross, Well done Mike!

Next week is the first round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL league with last entries at 10am.

Wades Dominate Penultimate Summer League Shoot

DTL League, Round 6

The sixth and final round of Tower Insurance’s summer DTL league was held at the Isle of Man Clay Pigeon Shooting Club, Santon, and saw eighteen keen competitors take part in perfect conditions.

Junior shooter Arran Wade hit the ground running with the day’s only 75 straight in his first round, closely followed by Stevie Craine on 73 and Mike Walker on 72. Rob Corlett closed out the class A leaders with 68, just three points ahead of C class Jeff Corkill on 65.

Phil Ward improved on his first round of 63 with a healthy 72 in round two, followed by John Moore on 70 and Ted Kermeen on 69, with Arran Wade, Stevie Craine, and Mike Parr all sharing 68 apiece.

Wade’s earlier straight helped propel him to overall victory with 143 points, closely followed by Craine on 141 and Walker with 138. Per-class results are as follows, with overall league results to be published at iomclays.com as soon as they’ve been collated.

Olympic Skeet League, Round 6

The afternoon of October 1st also saw the sixth round of Manx Petroleum’s Olympic Skeet league, with five competitors making a final bid for league dominance.

At the top of the first round we find Jeff Corkill with 19, followed by Dave Corlett on 17. Stan Cross and James Bradley each hit 15 targets, while newcomer to the discipline Mike Whitehead reigned in a respectable 7. It was all change for round two with Cross and Bradley reversing their fortunes and scoring 20 each, followed by Corkill with 17 and Corlett on 16. Whitehead also upped his game with 10 targets hit.

ABT League, Round 6

Our third contest on this perfect mid-autumn day was the last of the Sadler Agricultural summer ABT league, and this time we had seven competitors battling it out.

Top of the pops with 24 hits in round one was Alan Wade, followed by Stevie Craine on 22 and Wade Junior, Arran, with 20. Mike Parr scored 17 while Ted Kermeen and Jackie Clague were in hot pursuit on 16 points, leaving Rob Corlett to plan his revenge from the back of the room with 15 targets hit.

Round two saw Craine score 23 points, followed by Wade Senior with 22, Kermeen on 21, and Wade Junior on 20. Parr and Corlett were on the up with 18 and 17 respectively, while Clague dipped to 13.

After two rounds of 25 targets, the top three are Alan Wade with 46, Stevie Craine with 45, and Arran Wade with 40 hits. Today’s handicap winner was Kermeen with 52 points.

MV Summer Trap & Skeet

DTL League, Round Five

It was another busy day at Meary Veg with three competitions taking place.
First up was the fifth round of the Tower Insurance DTL league held in near ideal conditions.

The joint leaders after the first round were Mike Walker and Peter Kelly on 69 points in equal third place on 66 were Phil Ward and Stan Cross with junior Arran Wade, John Moore and Mark Riley next on 65.

After the second round the final results were in C class Brian Kelly was second with 86 points with Mike Whitehead in first place in C on 129. Ted Kermeen was third in B on 108 with Stan Cross taking second place on 116 but winning B class with 122 points was Dave Corlett.

In A class Phil Ward was in third place with 135 points with Arran Wade taking second place with 138 but just piping him for highgun by one point was Mike Walker with 139 points.

Olympic Skeet League, Round Five

The second shoot of the day was the fifth round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league which had the Parkinson Highgun cup up for grabs.

In first place also winning the Parkinson cup was James Bradley with 41 points, in second place on 40 was Stan Cross with Ted Davis third on 32. The handicap winner was Mike Whitehead with 40 points.

ABT League, Round Five

The third and final shoot was the fifth round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league.

The joint leaders after the first round were Father and son Alan and Arran Wade with both hitting 25 straights, in third place on 23 was Steven Craine with Mark Riley and Stan Skinner in equal fourth place on 22.

With both Wades shooting along side each other in squad two it going to be interesting to see who cracked first in the second round and it was Alan who missed his ninth target, so all eyes were on junior Arran to see if he could get 50 straight but it didn’t as he missed his 19th target to finish on 24 for a total of 49, but dad Alan, who  never gives up, ground a score out, chipping second barrelling  a lot of his targets to finish also with a  24 to tie with Arran on 49, Steven Craine was third with 45 points.

Riley Lifts Summer Cup

2023 Summer Club All-Rounder

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting club held their annual Club Championship which was sponsored by Paul’s Gunstocks.

With sixteen competitors taking part both ranges were in use at the same time. English skeet and DTL were first to be shot and the leader was Mark Riley with 145 points in second place on 140 was Peter Kelly with Jeff Corkill in third place on 138. The leading lady was Nicky Barnett on 96 with Zac Bellhouse being the leading junior on 131.

The next two disciplines were ABT and Olympic skeet and Mark Riley was still in the lead on 262 but only by one point from Jeff Corkill in second place on 261, Paul Mihailovits was in third place on 256 with Stan Cross forth on 253, Mark Barnett was in fifth place on 247 and making up the top six was John Moore on 242.

The final discipline was sporting and once all the scores had been verified we had the following results. Zac Bellhouse was the junior champion with 254 points. In C class Mike Whitehead was third on 202 with Nicky Barnett taking second place on 222 who also won the ladies and winning C class with 263 points was Roman Sammer. In B class Mark Barnett was third on 307 with Stan Cross taking second place on 308 and in first place on 321 was Jeff Corkill. Peter Kelly was third in A class on 287 with John Moore in second place on 299, first place in A class went to Paul Mihailovits with 322  points who was also the veteran winner but the new Club All Round Champion with 328 points was Mark Riley – well Done Mark.

Olympic Skeet & Trap

Ted Davis and Mark Riley each finished in seventh place during today’s Olympic Skeet and Olympic Trap disciplines with 92 and 97 points respectively.

Meanwhile Giulio Fabrizio bagged 82 for 12th place in the Olympic Skeet, and Rob Watterson scored 93 to finish 11th. Both disciplines enjoyed difficult targets thanks to high winds and awkward light towards the end of the day on Guernsey’s west coast.
