Cross wins Christmas Shoot

2024 Club Christmas Shoot

A hardy core of 20 shooters took part in the annual pre-Christmas All Round Competition sponsored by the club with all entrants getting a selection box for entering the shoot which was held in wet, cold and very windy conditions.

All the class prizes were meat prizes of Beef, Pork and Ham
The shoot was held over three disciplines with the SBDTL, and the Skeet doubles being shot first, with 20 targets in each discipline .
The leader after these two disciplines was A class Michael Cross on 34 points ,in second place on 31 was B class Calum Craine with junior Zac Bellhouse, Ted Kermeen, Rob Corlett and Mark Hepworth next on 29 . The leading C class shooter at this stage was John Kneen on 21.

After a short break to the shooters were re-squadded in ascending order before the Pro Sporting got under way. The final results were as follows ,in the team event the winners were Andre Vishnjov and Ted Kermeen on 83 points with Calum Craine and John Moore taking second place with 82 points and in third place with 78 points were Mark Hepworth and Stan Cross .

In the class’s Johnathon McCarthy was third in C class on 15 points with Les Devlin taking second place on 24 but winning C class with 26 points was lady shooter Sue Doyle. In B class we had to have a shoot off for third place between junior Zac Bellhouse and Ted Kermeen with Zac claiming third place . We also had a shoot off for 1st and 2nd between Calum Craine and Andre Vishnjov with Calum taking first place and Andre second.

We also had a shoot off for second and third in A class between John Moore and Peter Kelly with John taking second place and winning A class with 40 points was Stan Cross which only leave the highgun which was Micheal Cross with a well shot 51 points .

Bellhouse Rings in Changes

Skeet Doubles Championship

The Cross Doubles Championship sponsored by Stan Cross was held at Meary Veg Santon with 19 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

We had a three way tie for first place after the first round between junior Zac Bellhouse, James Simpson and lady shooter Rachael Bowen Matthews all with 22 points. After the second round we still had a three way tie but this time joining Bellhouse were Dave Corlett and Paul Mihailovits all with 44 points, in forth place on 43 were Jeff Corkill, Michael Cross and James Simpson.

After round three Bellhouse was in the lead on his own with 67 points three ahead of Stan Cross, James Simpson and Paul Mihailovits on 64 followed by Michael Cross on 63 in fifth place  and making up the top six was Dave Corlett on 62. With all to shoot for in the last round Dave Corlett and Michael Cross finished in equal fifth place on 85, in equal third place were James Simpson and Paul Mihailovits, in second place after having the best score of the last round of 24 was Stan Cross with 88 points but keeping his nerve and scoring 22 in his last round to finish on 89 was junior Zac Bellhouse – well done Zac.

Sammer and Cross dominate Easter Skeet

English Skeet Summer League, Round 2

The second round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 29 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions which included the Easter cups.

The leader after the first round were Michael Cross and John Moore both with 25 straights, in equal third place were Paul Mihailovits, Roman Sammer, Stan Cross, Rachel Bowen Matthews and joint C class leaders Giulio Fabrizio and Andre Visnjov all scoring 23. The leading B Class shooters at this stage were Peter Kelly, George Davies and Will Rand on 22.

After the second round we had the following results. In C class Ted Kermeen was in third place with 42 points with Giulio Fabrizio taking second place with 43 points but winning c class with 44 points was Andre Visnjov. Dave Corlett tied for second place in B class with 43 points but Peter Kelly took first in B with 45 points. Michael Cross was third in A class with 47 points but we had a tie for first place between Roman Sammer and Paul Mihailovits and as a cup was on it a shoot off was required and the victor was Roman hitting 11 to Pauls 10, well done Roman. In the handicap section we had a clear winner in Giulio Fabrizio who took the cup with 55 points. A team event was also included in the shoot but over the 100 targets and the winners were Jeff Corkill and Will Rand with 185 points, in equal second place were Stan Cross/Rachel Bowen Matthews and Paul Mihailovits /Andre Visnjov with 182 points.

Summer Skeet Medley

On Easter Monday the Skeet Medley cup was held sponsored by Stan Cross with 14 shooters taking part in cold, damp and dull conditions.

The leader after the skeet doubles was Michael Cross with a perfect 26, in second place on 25 was Peter Kelly with Paul Mihailovits, Jeff Corkill and Will Rand in equal third place on 24. English skeet was next and we had a new leader in Peter Kelly with 49 points, in equal second place on 48 were Paul Mihailovits and Stan Cross, Stan hitting the only straight in English skeet, followed by Dave Corlett and Will Rand on 47.

The final discipline was Olympic skeet and at the completion of the competition we had the following results. In C class Andre Visnjov was third with 47 points with Liam Kirkpatrick taking second place on 52 points but winning C class with 59 points was junior David Cowin. Brian Faragher was third in B class on 60 points but we had a tie for first place between Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly with 65 points. In A class Jeff Corkill was in third place with 66 points with Michael Cross taking second place on 67 and in 1st place in A was Paul Mihailovits with 68 points but taking the championship with 70 points was Stan Cross, well done Stan.

Postman Bob Delivers

Pre-Christmas Shoot

The IOM Clay Pigeon shooting Club held their annual pre Christmas shoot at Meary Veg Santon with 21 competitors taking part in very windy and wet conditions.

The event was held over three disciplines of twenty targets in each discipline. Skeet Doubles was shot first and we had joint leaders in Calum Craine and Brian Faragher with 18 points followed by Stan Cross, Jeff Corkill and Dave Corlett on 17. The next discipline was Double Rise and Brian Faragher was in the lead on his own with 32 points with Rob Corlett now in second place on 31 followed by Calum Craine, Stan Cross, Mike Walker and junior Joe Faragher on 28. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Brian Kelly on 23.

The final discipline was Pro Sporting and in C Class we had a sudden death tie break for second place between Harvey Stembridge and Andre Visjhov, with Andre taking second place and Harvey third place but the winner of C class with 35 points was Brian Kelly. In B class Stan Cross finished in third place on 41 points with Calum Craine taking second place with 43 points but winning B Class with 44 points was Brian Faragher. John Moore finished in third place in A class with 39 points but we had to have another sudden death shoot off for first and second place’s between Mike Walker and Peter Kelly who both scored 41 points and the winner of the shoot off was Mike Walker. The highgun on the day went to Rob Corlett with a very well shot 49, well done Rob.

A team event was also held and the winners were Rob Corlett and Mike Walker with 90 points with Joe Faragher and Jeff Corkill second with 78 points.

Intense Shoot-off for Doubles Title

Cross Skeet Doubles

The annual Cross Skeet Doubles sponsored by the Cross family was held at Meary Veg Santon with 18 competitors taking part in mostly dry but very blustery conditions.

We had a three way tie for first place after the first round between Paul Mihailovits, and father and son Stan and Michael Cross on 21 followed by John Moore, Roman Sammer and lady shooter Rachael Bowen Matthews on 20.

Michael Cross was in the lead on his own after round two with 44 points with Paul Mihailovits second on 43 and Stan Cross third on 41. Mihailovits was in the lead after round three with 65 points one ahead of Michael Cross in second place on 64 followed by Stan Cross in third place on 62 with Rachael Bowen Matthews next on 60 with John Moore and James Simpson next on 59.

Once all the scores were checked after the fourth and final round John Moore finished in forth place with 81 points with Stan Cross taking third place with 85 points but we had a tie for first place between Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross on 87 points so a shoot off was required to find a winner with pairs on four and what a shoot off we had, in the first set of four targets Paul and Michael both hit three out of four, as they did in the next four, then Paul hit all 4 targets but Michael matched him hitting all four targets in the next set of four it was three apiece, so on to the fifth set of four and Paul hit all four but Michael missed one so Paul was the 2023 Skeet Doubles Champion well done Paul.

Summer Skeet Medley

The Stan Cross Meary Veg Skeet Medley was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 14 competitors taking part in dull and nearly dry conditions.

The joint leaders after the English skeet section were Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross with 24 points, in equal third place were Stan Cross and James Simpson on 23 followed by John Moore, Will Rand, Peter Kelly and C  class shooters Mark Hepworth and Roman Sammer who were all on 22 points.

The next discipline was Skeet doubles and once again Michael Cross was top scoring along with Dad Stan and Will Rand with 24 points, Michael was also still in the lead on 48 with Stan in second place on 47 followed by Will Rand and James Simpson on 46. In B class we had a tie between Brian Faragher and Dave Corlett on 38 points and in C class Mark Hepworth was the leader on 41 with Roman Sammer in second place with 39 points followed by Chris Workman in third place on 38.

The final discipline was Olympic Skeet and in C class Mark Hepworth finished in third place on 48 points with Chris Workman taking second place on 49 with Roman Sammer taking the class with 40 points. In B class Dave Corlett was second with 52 points one point behind Brian Faragher in first place on 53. In A class we had a four way tie for third place between James Simpson, Paul Mihailovits, Will Rand and Jeff Corkill with 59 points, second place in A went to John Moore with 61 points with Stan Cross taking first place with 66 points one behind son Michael who was crowned the Meary Veg Skeet Medley Champion with 67 points – well Done Michael!

2022 Club Christmas Shoot

The annual Christmas Shoot was held at Meary Veg, Santon, and was sponsored by the club it self including a range of meat prizes. The shoot itself was held over three disciplines; 20 Double Rise, 20 Skeet Doubles and 20 Pro Sporting, and saw 19 competitors taking part in very windy and very cold conditions.

The joint leaders after the Double Rise were Peter Kelly and John Moore, both in A class, and junior Joe Faragher in B class with 16 points. The leading C class shooter was newcomer Will Challoner on 11. The next discipline was Skeet doubles and John Moore was in the lead on his own in A class with 31 points with Jeff Corkill second on 29 followed by Dave Corlett in third place in A on 28.

Leading B class was Will rand on 28 with Mark Barnett and Joe Faragher in equal second place on 27. We had a new leader in C class in junior Zac Bellhouse on 21 with Dave Morgan in second place on 18 and Brian Kelly in third place on 17. The final discipline was Pro Sporting which was shot from one of the new shelters and saw Dave Morgan finish in third place in C class on 25 with Brian Kelly now in second place on 30. Taking C class with 34 points was junior Zac Bellhouse. Michael Cross finished in third place in B class with 42 points with Will Rand taking second place on 43 but piping him by one point with a final total of 44 and top scoring in the Pro Sporting was Mark Barnett.

We had to have a shoot-off for third place in A class between Dave Corlett and Paul Mihailovits who both scored 42, which Dave won by one point, in second place on 43 was Peter Kelly with Jeff Corkill taking first place in A on 45 but the overall winner with 47 points was John Moore – well done John!

The range is open on Christmas eve till 13:00, closed on Christmas Day then the Boxing Day Shoot sponsored by Top Spec Fencing is on Tuesday 27th December over 50 Single Barrel DTL. We also have a non members section over 25 targets for anybody that has not shot competition before. The prizes will be presented at the Crosby Hotel after the meal, we still have a few places left for anybody that wishes to come along, contact Peter on 461203 for details. Cross Skeet Doubles

The Cross Doubles Championship kindly sponsored once again by the Cross family was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 18 competitors taking part in windy but sunny dry conditions.

At the half way stage we had a tie for first place between Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross on 50 points with junior Zac Bellhouse and veterans Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly tying for third place on 47, followed by Giulio Fabrizio in sixth place on 46. The leading lady was Rachael Bowen Matthews on 41.

After the second fifty Rachel Bowen Matthews was the leading lady with 83 points and Zac Bellhouse was the leading junior on 84 points with Joe Faragher in second place on 73. The leading veteran was Paul Mihailovits with 95 points.
We had a tie for third place overall between Stan Cross,Dave Corlett and Jeff Corkill on 88 points but we had a tie for first place between the half way leaders Michael Cross and Paul Mihailovits on 95, so a shoot off was required to find a winner.

The shoot off consisted of two pairs on stand four shooting high house first then low house first. They both hit all four targets in the the first round of four but ten in the second four Paul missed the low target on the second pair which opened the door for Michael which he duly took hitting all four targets to claim the championship by one point – well done Michael.

In the team event Will Rand & Dave Corlett and Giulio Fabrizio & Peter Kelly were in equal third place on 173 Paul Mihailovits & John Moore were second on 176 with Stan and Michael Cross taking the team prize with 183 points.

2022 Skeet Medley

The annual Skeet Medley Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in near perfect conditions.

The leader after the English skeet was Peter Kelly with a perfect straight scoring 24 points as no optional is required, in second place on 23 were Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits followed by John Moore on 22.

The next discipline was Manx Skeet and we had a new leader in Paul Mihailovits with 47 points with Stan Cross and John Moore in equal second place on 46 followed by Peter Kelly on 45 with Giulio Fabrizio in fifth place on 43. Making up the top six was Dave Corlett on 41.

The third discipline was Skeet Doubles and Mihailovits increased his lead to three by hitting all 26 targets for a running total of 73. Stan Cross was second on 70 with John Moore third on 69, in fourth place on 68 was Giulio Fabrizio and making up the top six was Peter Kelly on 67.

The forth and final skeet discipline was Olympic skeet which proved to be a game changer; Dave Corlett finished in sixth place on 80 with Peter Kelly fifth on 84, John Moore was forth on 84. We had a tie for second place overall between Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits on 90 points but the surprise winner who trailed the leader by five points going into the last round was Giulio Fabrizio with 91 points having hit 23 in the last discipline Olympic skeet – well done Giulio!

Winter 2021 Pre-Christmas Cracker

A Festive Trio of Targets

The annual pre Christmas shoot was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 23 competitors taking part in dry calm but misty conditions and was sponsored by the club as a way of a thank you to members for their support over the past year.

It was a new format this year with Skeet Doubles, Double Rise and a shortened Pro Sporting to make it a 60 target shoot. The leaders of A class after the Skeet Doubles were Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits with a full house, hitting all 20 targets with George Davies, John Moore and Giulio Fabrizio next on 18. In B class Michael Cross was the leader also on 20 with with Will Rand, Mark Barnett and Brian Faragher next all on 17. Steven Rand was the C class leader on 15 with Brian Kelly next on 14 followed by Nicky Barnett on 13.

The next discipline was Double Rise and Stan Cross first with a running total of 34 with Steven Craine next on 33 followed by Paul Mihailovits in third place on 31. Michel Cross was still the leader of B class also on 34 points the same as his Dad in A class, but we had a four way tie for second place between Will Rand, Brian Faragher, Mark Barnett and Ted Kermeen all on 28. Steven Rand was still the leader of C class with 22 points with Brian Kelly and Allana Wade in equal second place on 21 with Nicky Barnett and Orry Watterson next on 20.

The final discipline Pro Sporting saw Allana Wade taking third place in C class with 32 points with Brian Kelly in second place on 33 points but taking C class with 34 points was Steven Rand. In B class Brian Faragher was third on 44 with Mark Barnett second on 45 with Will Rand taking B class with 46 points, Michael Cross who was leading B class shot 19 on the pro sporting to take highgun overall with 53 points beating his dad by two points who was the winner of A class on 51 points, Paul Mihailovits was second in A on 49 with George Davies taking third place on 48.
