Kirkpatrick leads Fundraiser

Annual Hospice Shoot, 30 June

The Hospice Charity shoot hosted by The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club was held on Sunday 30th June with 85 competitors taking part in at first dull overcast conditions but finishing in bright sunshine.

With the first squad out at 9 am and the last squad starting out at 3-40 pm a long day was in the offering. Once all the scores had been gathered we had the following results:

The individual overall highgun went to Liam Kirkpatrick who scored 45 the same as Peter Kelly but Liam won on count back hitting all 10 targets on the last stand to Peter’s 9. Peter though won the veterans gold medal with Paul Mihailovits taking the silver with 41 points on count back from George Davies in the bronze position. The winning senior was Mark Barnett with 44 points with Michael Cross taking silver on count back from Mark Corrin who both scored 43.In the ladies section Jennie Robertson was the winner also on count back from Irene Stockil who both scored 37 with Sue Doyle taking bronze on 36.In the colt section Joe Faragher was the winner on 36 with Ollie Tobin taking silver on 35 and taking the bronze with 32 points was Ossie McLaren.

In the non members section Wayne Corlett was the winner with 39 points with S Wade taking the silver with 36 points and A Halsall taking bronze with 34 points. The last of the individual sections was the novices and winning the gold medal was K Tastagh with 31 points winning on count back From G Harrison in silver medal position ,taking the bronze medal was with 30 points was R Kissack .

In the team highgun section the first team out on the day being Mark Barnett, Peter Kelly, Liam Kirkpatrick and Kim Tastagh won with 165 points, also winning the Mike and Margret Cross highgun cup. In the silver medal position with 159 points was Brian Faragher, Joe Faragher, Mark Sweetman and Mark Corrin who beat Stan Cross, Michael Cross Will Rand and Neil Parsons on count back who took the bronze.

In the handicap section the bronze medal went to T Kinrade, S Corkill, G Wright and E Hardisty with 182.3 points, in the silver medal position with 183.7 points were P Vincent, G Brown, J McCarthy and C Canter but winning the Gold medal and also the Voirrey Kelly highgun cup were B Owen, K Watterson, L Cubbon and S Cubbon.

A big thank you must go to all are sponsors Laporte clays for supplying the clays for the event Manx Independent for transporting them to the Island, Eley Hawk for the ammunition, Strand Vets with helping with the cost of the polo shirts, NFU for the purchase of the medals, Harrison and Garrett for the burgers and sausages etc for the buffet, Lisa and Johnny for the preparation and serving of the excellent buffet, Chris Workman for the beautiful cakes also to all the other people, companies that donated to this very worthy course, to those people that helped in setting up the range, marking, referring, picking up afterwards and last but not least, to all you competitors in taking part in making it another very enjoyable day in raising money for Hospice IOM which this year we have raised approximately £3400-00, taking monies raised so far to approximately £37000-00.

The provisional date for next year’s event is Sunday 29th June 2025. Many thanks to one and all!

English Sporting Summer League, Round 4

The fourth round of the Suntera Global Sporting League was held at Meary Veg Santon with 20 competitors taking part in cool, dry, overcast conditions, which also had the added incentive of the Ted Gohl Highgun Trophy and the Brian Faragher Handicap cup up for grabs.

The leader after the first stand were George Davies and Rob Corlett with perfect 10’s followed by Dave Corlett, Ben Stembridge, Michael Cross and lady shooter Irene Stockil on 9. After the second stand we had a three way tie for first place between Dave Corlett, Michael and Stan Cross on 18 followed by Rob Corlett, Andre Vishnjov and Irene Stockil on 17.

After stand three we had the Cross’s tying for first place on 27 with Dave Corlett in third place on 26 followed by Jack Clague in forth place on 25. Michael Cross was in the lead on his own after stand four on 37 points mainly thanks to hitting all ten targets, in second place on 32 were Stan Cross, Dave and Rob Corlett with Peter Kelly next on 31 and making up the top six was junior Zac Bellhouse on 30.

After the fifth and last stand we had the following results, third place in C class went to Irene Stockil on 33 points with Andre Vishnjov in second place on 36 but winning C class with 39 points was Zac Bellhouse. George Davies was in third place in B class with 34 points with Jack Clague taking second place on 35 with Liam Kirkpatrick winning B class with 37 points. We had a tie for second place in A class between Peter Kelly and Stan Cross on 41 points but winning A class and also taking the the Ted Gohl highgun trophy with a well shot 47 was Michael Cross. The winner of the Brian Faragher handicap cup was junior Zac Bellhouse with 61 points.

Rand Leads from Start to Finish

English Sporting Summer League, Round 3

The third round of the Suntera Global Sporting League was held at Meary Veg Santon with 22 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first stand which proved to be the hardest of the six stands was B class shooter Will Rand hitting 8 of the ten targets, in equal second place were A class Ben Stembridge, Michael Cross and Rob Corlett with 7 points.
Rand was still in the lead after stand two with 18 points closely followed by Cross on 15, Stembridge was in third place on 13. It was status quo after the third stand with Rand on 23 Cross on 22 and Stembridge on 19.

We had the same running order after the fourth stand with Rand on 30 Cross on 29 and Stembridge one closer in third place on 27 with Rob Corlett one behind in forth place on 26, closely followed by juniors Joe Faragher, Zac Bellhouse and veteran Paul Mihailovits in equal fifth place on 25. Rand and Cross both scored 6 on stand 5 to be first and second but we had a tie now for third place between Stembridge and junior Faragher on 33.

After the sixth and last stand in C class we had a tie for third place between Mark Hepworth and Dave Morgan on 31 points, in second place in C was Jon Williams on 32 but taking C class with 34 points was junior Zac Bellhouse. George Davies was in third place in B class with 38 points with Joe Faragher second on 40 but winning B class with 42 points was Will Rand. Rob Corlett was third in A class on 39 with Michel Cross in second place on 40 but winning A class with 41 points hitting all 8 targets on the last stand was Ben Stembridge, but high gun on the day went to B class shooter Will Rand who led from start to finish with 42 points -well done Will!

English Sporting Summer League, Round 2

The second round of the Suntara Summer Sporting League was held at Meary Veg Santon with 23 competitors taking part in very windy but dry warm conditions over five testing stands.

The leader after the first stand were Jack Clague, Paul Mihailovits, Rob Corlett and leading B class shooter George Davies with perfect 10’s. George Davies was in the lead on his own after the second stand with 18 points followed by Michael Cross in second place on 17 with Stan Cross, Rob Corlett, Will Rand, Mark Corrin and John Moore all tying for third place on 16. Davies was still in the lead after the third stand scoring 9 for a running total of 27 with Michael Cross in second place on 25 followed by Paul Mihailovits, Stan Cross, Rob Corlett and Mark Corrin all tying for third place on 24.

The leading C class shooter at this stage was Sue Doyle with 20 points. We had a new leader after stand four in Michael Cross with 35 points with George Davies now in second place on 34 with Paul Mihailovits in third place on 33. Sue Doyle maintained her lead in C class with 25 points. After the fifth and final stand we had Andre Vishnjov third in C class on 28 points with Sue Doyle and Calum Craine tying for first place on 30 points. Mark Corrin and Will Rand were in equal second place in B class with 37 points but taking B class with 39 points was George Davies. We also had a tie for third place in A class between Stan Cross and Rob Corlett on 38 points, runner up in A class was Paul Mihailovits on 42 points but winning A class and also high gun on the day was Michael Cross.

Joint Victory for Kelly and Mihailovits

English Sporting Summer League, Round 1

The first round of the Isle of Man Clay Pigeon Shooting Club’s Summer Sporting League was held at Meary Veg, Santon today, where 22 competitors battled the elements as well as fifty testing targets spread across five stands.

Sporting veteran Paul Mihailovits wasted no time in making his mark on stand one with nine points scored, followed by Rob Corlett, Mark Hepworth, and Mark Barnett on eight. Stand two saw Peter Kelly and Brian Faragher join Barnett and Mihailovits with almost perfect nines, while Brian Kelly and new / unclassified shooter Mark Corrin scooped eight targets each.

The third stand featured a tricky battue target which rotates as it slices through the air as well as a naughty jumping rabbit, but neither of these nasties fazed Rob Corlett as he smashed his way to a perfect ten, followed by Peter Kelly and Ben Stembridge with nine apiece. Brian Faragher looked like he too would clean this testing stand but was cheated of two points by leaping bunnies and had to settle for eight, as did Dave Corlett and Mark Barnett.

Stand four provided everybody with equal opportunity to score ten points, but only Peter Kelly, Paul Mihailovits and Corlett Junior took advantage, clearing the high chandelle and incoming midi with aplomb, while Nicky Barnett and husband Mark had to settle for nine hits each. Level pegging on eight were Mark Corrin, Will Rand, and John Moore.

Stand number five – the only one not shot from the relative comfort of our shelters – featured a pair of incoming ducks attempting to roost on our dedicated beginner’s range, but Dave Corlett had other ideas and smashed all ten clays, the only one to clear a stand which we had initially thought too easy. Mark Corrin also did well and missed just one watery fowl, while John Moore, Mark Hepworth, Andre Visnjov, Brian Faragher and Mark Sweetman each let two get away, so at least we’ve got a couple of breeding pairs.

The end of a very wet and windy day’s shooting saw Mark Corrin and Dave Corlett finish with 38 points overall, with Mark Barnett on 39 and Rob Corlett on 41, but joint top guns were Peter Kelly and Paul Mihailovits with 42 points each. Our sincere thanks to Suntera Global for once again sponsoring the league and supporting clay sports on the Isle of Man, and to Sheila Kelly for keeping us all going with mugs of tea and sausage baps. Next week it’s the first round of ABT, DTL and Olympic Skeet, with Brian Faragher and Will Rand at the helm for Saturday practice.

Cross wears All-Round Crown

Manx All-Round Championship

The IOM clay Pigeon Shooting Club hosted the IOM All Round Championship kindly sponsored by Sadler Agricultural Supplies

The championship consisted of four disciplines SB DTL, ABT, English Skeet and Sporting and shot in that order.

The leader after the SBDTL was John Moore with 24 points closely followed by Michael Cross and junior Arran Wade on 22 with Alan Kinrade, Mark Barnett, Rob Corlett and Jack Clague on 21.

The next discipline was ABT and John Moore was still in the lead on 45 points with Michael Cross and Arran Wade in equal second place on 44 and followed by Alan Kinrade on 41 with Mark Riley now in fourth place on 40.

English skeet was next and Cross showed his class hitting all 25 targets to take the lead on 69 points with Moore now in second place on 66 followed by Kinrade in third place on 65, Mark Riley was forth on 63 with Arran Wade in fifth place on 62.

The final discipline was sporting shot over a very testing course of four stands. With the first four getting prizes we had to have a shoot off for third and forth place between Mark Riley and Arran Wade over a round of SBDTL. The result of the shoot off was Riley claimed third place with 20 points to Wade’s 19, who got fourth place. The runner up in the Championship went to Alan Kinrade with 82 points but taking the Championship with 84 points was Michael Cross, well done Michael!

Final Round of Summer Sporting

Pro Sporting, Round 6

The sixth and final round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting league was held at Meary Veg Santon in wet and cool conditions but it did not deter the 16 shooters taking part as the competition was shot from the shelters that the club have built over the past couple of years.

The leader after the first layout was John Moore with 24 points in second place on 23 were junior Joe Faragher and Peter Kelly followed by Rob Corlett, Paul Mihailovits, Will Ennett and Dave Corlett on 22.

Once every body had finished the second layout we had the following results, in C class Brian Kelly finished in third place with 40 points, but we had a tie for first place in C between Daniel Zorab and Will Ennett who both shot 43. In B class newcomer Ben Stembridge was third on 42 with John Moore taking second place on 45 but winning B class with the best score of the was junior Joe Faragher with 47 points. Paul Mihailovits was third in A class with 44 points but we had another tie for first place in A between Will Rand and Rob Corlett on 45 points, Will hitting a straight on the second layout.

English Sporting, Round 6

In the afternoon the final round of the Suntera Sporting League was held with 18 competitors taking part in damp dull conditions, which was again shot under the shelters.

The leaders after the first stand were John Moore and Brian Faragher with 9 points followed by Paul Mihailovits, Will Rand, Arran Wade, Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly on 8. John Moore was in the lead on his own after stand two with 19 points followed by Paul Mihailovits, Dave Corlett and Dave Clague on 17.

We had a new leader after stand three in Paul Mihailovits with 27 points with Ben Stembridge in second place on 26 followed by six shooters on 24. Stand four and Mihailovits was still in the lead on 35 with Stembridge in second place on 34 followed by Rand and George Davies on 33.

The final results after the fifth and final stand were, in C class Ed Rixon was third on 26 with lady shooter Irene Stockil taking second place on 29 but winning C class with 32 points was Mark Sweetman. We had a three way tie for first place in B class between junior Arran Wade, John Moore and Dave Corlett all on 39 points. Ben Stem Bridge was third in A class on 41 with Will Rand taking second place with 42 points but top of the class with 44 points was Paul Mihailovits.

Bumper Sporting Weekend

It was another busy week at Meary Veg with three competitions. The first competition was the Meary Veg FITASC Championship on Wednesday afternoon/evening kindly sponsored by Brian Faragher.

Meary Veg FITASC Championship

This discipline was new to Meary Veg and all 17 competitors really enjoyed it especially Paul Mihailovits who came away with the championship spoils scoring 40 points. In second place on 38 was Dave Corlett with junior Joe Faragher taking third place on 37. Jack Clague was forth on 34 followed by Will Ennett, Liam Kirkpatrick and Mark Barnett on 33.

Pro Sporting, Round 5

On Sunday morning the fifth round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting league took place with 23 competitors taking part in dry windy conditions.

The leader after the first layout was Peter Kelly with 21 points in second place on 20 were Paul Mihailovits and Steven Craine followed by Rob Corlett, Mark Sweetman and Paul Mihailovits on 19.

After the second layout we had Mike Whitehead in third place in C class on 26 points with Will Ennett and Mark Hepworth in equal first place with 30 points. Brian Faragher was third in B class with 35 points with Mark Sweetman taking second place on 38 points but taking B class with 39 points was Liam Kirkpatrick which was joint high gun on the day with Will Rand who took A class by one point from Dave & Rob Corlett and Paul Mihailovits in equal second place on 38.

In the afternoon we had the fifth round of the Suntera Global sporting league. The leaders after the first stand were juniors Arran Wade and Zac Bellhouse with 9 points. In equal third place on 8 points were Will Rand and Paul Mihailovits.

After the second stand Paul Mihailovits and John Moore were the joint leaders on 16 points with Alan Wade, Dave Corlett, George Davies, and Arran Wade in equal third place on 15. We had a four way tie for first place after stand three with Paul Mihailovits, Dave Corlett,George Davies and newcomer Ben Stembridge all tying on 24 points followed by Alan Wade on 23.

After stand four we had a clear leader in Paul Mihailovits on 34 points with Ben Stembridge and Alan Wade in equal second place on 33 followed by Dave Corlett on 32. After the fifth and final stand we had the following results, Mark Sweetman finished in third place in C class with 33 points with Mike Whitehead taking second place on 36 but taking C class with 38 points was Liam Kirkpatrick.

In B class Brian Faragher was in third place on 37 points but we had a tie for first place between John Moore and Dave Corlett on 38 points. In A class we had a three way tie for third place between Will Rand, Mark Barnett and George Davies on 37 points. In second place on 39 points was Alan Wade but top of the class with a well shot 44 points was Paul Mihailovits.

Riley Lifts Summer Cup

2023 Summer Club All-Rounder

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting club held their annual Club Championship which was sponsored by Paul’s Gunstocks.

With sixteen competitors taking part both ranges were in use at the same time. English skeet and DTL were first to be shot and the leader was Mark Riley with 145 points in second place on 140 was Peter Kelly with Jeff Corkill in third place on 138. The leading lady was Nicky Barnett on 96 with Zac Bellhouse being the leading junior on 131.

The next two disciplines were ABT and Olympic skeet and Mark Riley was still in the lead on 262 but only by one point from Jeff Corkill in second place on 261, Paul Mihailovits was in third place on 256 with Stan Cross forth on 253, Mark Barnett was in fifth place on 247 and making up the top six was John Moore on 242.

The final discipline was sporting and once all the scores had been verified we had the following results. Zac Bellhouse was the junior champion with 254 points. In C class Mike Whitehead was third on 202 with Nicky Barnett taking second place on 222 who also won the ladies and winning C class with 263 points was Roman Sammer. In B class Mark Barnett was third on 307 with Stan Cross taking second place on 308 and in first place on 321 was Jeff Corkill. Peter Kelly was third in A class on 287 with John Moore in second place on 299, first place in A class went to Paul Mihailovits with 322 points who was also the veteran winner but the new Club All Round Champion with 328 points was Mark Riley – well Done Mark.

Wades Weather Windy Targets

Meary Veg Sporting GP

The Meary Veg Sporting GP kindly sponsored once again by Juan Cowley, Stan Cross and Will Rand who sponsored the cups up for grabs was held at Meary Veg in dry, cloudy and at times sunny conditions with a stiff southerly wind. 30 competitors took to the stands with over £1200 in the prize pot shot over two laps of six stands.

We had joint leaders after the first round were A class shooters Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross along with B class shooter Dave Corlett all tying on 39 points followed by Alan Wade on 38 with Rob Corlett, Brian Faragher and Liam Kirkpatrick next on 35. The leading lady at this stage was Sue Doyle with 30 points followed by Irene Stockil on 24. The leading junior was Joe Faragher on 34 with Zac Bellhouse next on 30 who was also the leading C class shooter .

After a short break the second lap got under way and once all the scores had been verified we had the following results. In C class Li Williamson was in third place with 52 points with Irene Stockil in second place on 54 but taking C class with 61 points was junior Zac Bellhouse. In B class Liam Kirkpatrick was in third place on 67 with junior Joe Faragher taking second place on 69 who was also the leading junior, but winning B class with 73 points was Dave Corlett.

In A class Rob Corlett was third on 70 with Juan Cowley taking second place with 71 points ,in first place in A class went to Michael Cross on 77 points. The runner up overall was Paul Mihailovits with 78 points but winning and the only shooter to break eighty was Alan Wade with 80 points, well done Alan.
