Kneen in Front for Sport Trap

Sport Trap Manx Championship

The IOM Sport Trap Championship was held at Meary Veg Santon and kindly sponsored by Sadler Agricultural Supplies as well as Pro Fab Wielding and Top Spec Fencing.

The leader after the first round was George Davies with a perfect 25 straight, in equal second place on 24 were Marty Kneen and John Moore with Alan Wade next on 23 followed by Alan Kinrade and Neil Parsons on 22. Marty Kneen took the lead after round two on 47 points, Alan Wade was in second place now on 45 with George Davies and Alan Kinrade next on 43. Kneen stretched his lead after round three to five adding another 23 to his total for making 70 points, Alan Wade was still in second place on 65 with Alan Kinrade and Michael Cross now in equal third place on 64 followed by Paul Mihailovits on 63.

After the forth and final round junior Zac Bellhouse shooting his first Sport trap competition finished in second place in C class with 66 points with Paul Mihailovits taking C class on 85. Stan Cross was second in B class with 77 points but taking B class with 81 points was George Davies. Neil Parsons was second in A class on 84 but we had to have a shot off for third overall between the two Alan’s Kinrade and Wade both scoring 87 and it was Kinrade who was third overall on 87+21 with Wade taking A class with 87+19, in second place overall was Michael Cross with 88 points but winning in style with a 25 straight in his last round was Marty Kneen with a final total on 95.

Barsby lands Leonetti Cup

Summer Skeet Round Five

The fifth round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 18 competitors taking part in dry hot sunny conditions, which also had the Cesar Leonetti Handicap cup up for grabs.

The joint leaders after the first round were Chairman Peter Kelly, vice Chairman Will Rand and Jeff Corkill with 24 points. In equal forth place were Paul Mihailovits and C class shooter Zac Bellhouse on 23 and making up the top six were John Moore, Madeleine Simpson and Brian Faragher on 22. We also had two shooters making their league debut in Daniel Zorab and John Gaydon who both shot well to record 16 and 14 respectively.

After the second round Brian Kelly and Rob Marshall finished in equal second place in C class with 41 points but taking C class with 48 points was junior Zac Bellhouse who recorded his first 25 straight in his second round – well done Zac! In B class Irene Stockil was in  third place with 41 points with Brian Faragher taking second place with 43 points but taking first place in B was Madeleine Simpson with 44 points. Paul Mihailovits and Jeff Corkill were in equal third place in A class with 47 points with Will Rand taking second place on 48 but taking the highgun and A class with 49 points was Peter Kelly.

In the handicap section for the Cesar Leonetti Handicap cup Wayne Barsby was the run away winner with 64 points. Six shooters carried on to complete a 100 targets and Paul Mihailovits was top gun on 97 with Jeff Corkill second on 94 and John Moore third on 91.

Watterson Wears Ball Trap Crown

ABT Manx Championship

The IOM ABT Championship sponsored by Sadler Agricultural Supplies was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with twelve competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first round was Stan Skinner with 24 points in equal second place on 23 were Rob Watterson, Alan Wade and Mark Riley followed by junior Arran Wade in fifth place on 21 and making up the top six were Steven Craine and Phil Ward on 20.

Skinner hit a straight in his second round, doubling  his lead to two and having a running total of 49, in second place on 47 was Rob Watterson with Alan and Arran Wade now in joint third place on 46. Arran also had a straight in his round, Mark Riley was in fourth place on 44 with Mike Parr and Steven Craine in equal sixth place on 42. We had a tie for the lead after round three between Watterson and Skinner on 71, with Alan Wade in third place on 70, Arran Wade and Mark Riley were tied in forth place with 67 points and in sixth place on 65 was Mike Parr.

So with all to shoot for in the forth and final round, Watterson and Skinner the joint leaders were in the first squad, Skinner scored 22 to finish on 93 but Watterson hit the perfect straight to finish on 96 and win the IOM ABT Championship for the very first time, well done Rob!

We had to have a shoot off for second place as Stan Skinner and Alan Wade both scored 93 which Alan won 24 to 23. Arran Wade was the junior winner on 90.

Cross pips Mihailovits to Big Prize

Meary Veg English Sporting Grand Prix

The Meary Veg Sporting GP was held at Meary Veg, Santon, kindly sponsored by Juan Cowley with prize money of over one thousand pounds up for grabs by the thirty competitors taking part in dry but windy conditions making high scoring difficult. The competition was held over 16 stands with each of the six squads doing four laps of four stands on each lap.

We had a six way tie for first place after the first lap with Michael Cross, George Davies, Dave Lally, Jack Clague, Mark Riley and Mark Barnett all returning scores of 26 out of a possible 32. George Davies was in the lead on his own after lap two with 49 points, in second place on 48 was Michael Cross with Dave Lally in third place on 45 followed by Paul Mihailovits in fourth place on 44 with John Moore, Andy Morgan and Jack Clague next on 42. We had a new leader after lap three in Michael Cross with 69 points with Dave Lally now in second place on 67 with George Davies and Paul Mihailovits in equal third place on 66, John Moore was in fifth place on 64 and making the top six was Andy Morgan on 61. 

After the fourth and final lap junior Zac Bellhouse finished in third place in C class with 64 points, in second place in C class was Richard Kneen on 68 but winning C class with 69 points was junior Joe Faragher with 69 points who also won the junior high gun cup.

In B class we had to have a sudden death shoot off to find out who was in third place between Rob Corlett and Peter Kelly who both shot 77 with Peter winning by 4 to Robs 3, second place in B went to Andy Morgan on 79 but winning B class with 81 points was John Moore. We had the same situation for third place in A class with Jack Clague and Mark Riley tying on 78 points with Mark winning the shoot off 2-1, Dave Lally was second in A on 84 with George Davies taking A class with 86 points. The runner up overall was Paul Mihailovits with 87 points but winning the Meary Veg GP with 91 points was Michael Cross – well shot Michael.

In the team highgun section of the competition the winners were father and son Stan and Michael Cross with 167 points in second place on 162 were George Davies and Juan Cowley with Peter Kelly and Jack Clague taking third place on 155. A handicap team event was also held and the winners were Paul Mihailovits and Zac Bellhouse  with 240 points, in second place were Dave and Andy Morgan on 229 with Brian Kelly and Mark Sweetman third on 226.

On behalf of the club may I thank all that helped in setting up, running the competition but mainly Juan Cowley for sponsoring the event and Will Rand for putting up the highgun, team and junior cups for the winners, a long day but most enjoyable thank you all.
