Sammer and Cross dominate Easter Skeet

English Skeet Summer League, Round 2

The second round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 29 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions which included the Easter cups.

The leader after the first round were Michael Cross and John Moore both with 25 straights, in equal third place were Paul Mihailovits, Roman Sammer, Stan Cross, Rachel Bowen Matthews and joint C class leaders Giulio Fabrizio and Andre Visnjov all scoring 23. The leading B Class shooters at this stage were Peter Kelly, George Davies and Will Rand on 22.

After the second round we had the following results. In C class Ted Kermeen was in third place with 42 points with Giulio Fabrizio taking second place with 43 points but winning c class with 44 points was Andre Visnjov. Dave Corlett tied for second place in B class with 43 points but Peter Kelly took first in B with 45 points. Michael Cross was third in A class with 47 points but we had a tie for first place between Roman Sammer and Paul Mihailovits and as a cup was on it a shoot off was required and the victor was Roman hitting 11 to Pauls 10, well done Roman. In the handicap section we had a clear winner in Giulio Fabrizio who took the cup with 55 points. A team event was also included in the shoot but over the 100 targets and the winners were Jeff Corkill and Will Rand with 185 points, in equal second place were Stan Cross/Rachel Bowen Matthews and Paul Mihailovits /Andre Visnjov with 182 points.

Summer Skeet Medley

On Easter Monday the Skeet Medley cup was held sponsored by Stan Cross with 14 shooters taking part in cold, damp and dull conditions.

The leader after the skeet doubles was Michael Cross with a perfect 26, in second place on 25 was Peter Kelly with Paul Mihailovits, Jeff Corkill and Will Rand in equal third place on 24. English skeet was next and we had a new leader in Peter Kelly with 49 points, in equal second place on 48 were Paul Mihailovits and Stan Cross, Stan hitting the only straight in English skeet, followed by Dave Corlett and Will Rand on 47.

The final discipline was Olympic skeet and at the completion of the competition we had the following results. In C class Andre Visnjov was third with 47 points with Liam Kirkpatrick taking second place on 52 points but winning C class with 59 points was junior David Cowin. Brian Faragher was third in B class on 60 points but we had a tie for first place between Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly with 65 points. In A class Jeff Corkill was in third place with 66 points with Michael Cross taking second place on 67 and in 1st place in A was Paul Mihailovits with 68 points but taking the championship with 70 points was Stan Cross, well done Stan.

Summer Skeet Medley

The Stan Cross Meary Veg Skeet Medley was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 14 competitors taking part in dull and nearly dry conditions.

The joint leaders after the English skeet section were Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross with 24 points, in equal third place were Stan Cross and James Simpson on 23 followed by John Moore, Will Rand, Peter Kelly and C  class shooters Mark Hepworth and Roman Sammer who were all on 22 points.

The next discipline was Skeet doubles and once again Michael Cross was top scoring along with Dad Stan and Will Rand with 24 points, Michael was also still in the lead on 48 with Stan in second place on 47 followed by Will Rand and James Simpson on 46. In B class we had a tie between Brian Faragher and Dave Corlett on 38 points and in C class Mark Hepworth was the leader on 41 with Roman Sammer in second place with 39 points followed by Chris Workman in third place on 38.

The final discipline was Olympic Skeet and in C class Mark Hepworth finished in third place on 48 points with Chris Workman taking second place on 49 with Roman Sammer taking the class with 40 points. In B class Dave Corlett was second with 52 points one point behind Brian Faragher in first place on 53. In A class we had a four way tie for third place between James Simpson, Paul Mihailovits, Will Rand and Jeff Corkill with 59 points, second place in A went to John Moore with 61 points with Stan Cross taking first place with 66 points one behind son Michael who was crowned the Meary Veg Skeet Medley Champion with 67 points – well Done Michael!

Fabrizio claims Medley Title

2022 Skeet Medley

The annual Skeet Medley Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in near perfect conditions.

The leader after the English skeet was Peter Kelly with a perfect straight scoring 24 points as no optional is required, in second place on 23 were Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits followed by John Moore on 22.

The next discipline was Manx Skeet and we had a new leader in Paul Mihailovits with 47 points with Stan Cross and John Moore in equal second place on 46 followed by Peter Kelly on 45 with Giulio Fabrizio in fifth place on 43. Making up the top six was Dave Corlett on 41.

The third discipline was Skeet Doubles and Mihailovits increased his lead to three by hitting all 26 targets for a running total of 73. Stan Cross was second on 70 with John Moore third on 69, in fourth place on 68 was Giulio Fabrizio and making up the top six was Peter Kelly on 67.

The forth and final skeet discipline was Olympic skeet which proved to be a game changer; Dave Corlett finished in sixth place on 80 with Peter Kelly fifth on 84, John Moore was forth on 84. We had a tie for second place overall between Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits on 90 points but the surprise winner who trailed the leader by five points going into the last round was Giulio Fabrizio with 91 points having hit 23 in the last discipline Olympic skeet – well done Giulio!

A Day of Autumn Skeet

Moore victorious in 2021 Skeet Medley

The annual Meary Veg Skeet Medley sponsored by Manx Petroleum’s was held at Meary Veg Santon in dull and overcast conditions.

The leader after the English Skeet was Paul Mihailovits with 23 points with Dave Corlett, Jeff Corkill and Peter Kelly next on 22. The next discipline was Manx Skeet and we had a new leader in John Moore on 44 with Paul Mihailovits and Dave Corlett next on 43.

Skeet doubles was the next form of skeet shooting to be held and John Moore was still in the lead on 69 closely followed by Paul Mihailovits in second place on 68 with Dave Corlett next on 66 in third place. The last skeet discipline was Olympic skeet and this sorts normally sorts the men from the boys and it didn’t disappoint . Nicky Barnett took C class on 58 points. In B class junior Joe Faragher was third on 71 with another junior David Cowin in second place on 77 and in first place in B class was Peter Kelly on 79.

We had a tie for second place in A class between Mark Barnett and Dave Corlett on 83 with the third round leader John Moore taking A class with 84 having scoring only 15 points in the Olympic skeet which left Paul Mihailovits to take the Skeet Medley championship with 87 points – well shot Paul!
