Fabrizio claims Medley Title

2022 Skeet Medley

The annual Skeet Medley Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in near perfect conditions.

The leader after the English skeet was Peter Kelly with a perfect straight scoring 24 points as no optional is required, in second place on 23 were Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits followed by John Moore on 22.

The next discipline was Manx Skeet and we had a new leader in Paul Mihailovits with 47 points with Stan Cross and John Moore in equal second place on 46 followed by Peter Kelly on 45 with Giulio Fabrizio in fifth place on 43. Making up the top six was Dave Corlett on 41.

The third discipline was Skeet Doubles and Mihailovits increased his lead to three by hitting all 26 targets for a running total of 73. Stan Cross was second on 70 with John Moore third on 69, in fourth place on 68 was Giulio Fabrizio and making up the top six was Peter Kelly on 67.

The forth and final skeet discipline was Olympic skeet which proved to be a game changer; Dave Corlett finished in sixth place on 80 with Peter Kelly fifth on 84, John Moore was forth on 84. We had a tie for second place overall between Stan Cross and Paul Mihailovits on 90 points but the surprise winner who trailed the leader by five points going into the last round was Giulio Fabrizio with 91 points having hit 23 in the last discipline Olympic skeet – well done Giulio!

Sunny Sunday Skeet

Colin Bowen Memorial League, Round 1

The first round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League for 2022 was held at Meary Veg Santon with nineteen competitors taking part in dry, sunny but breezy conditions.

The joint leaders after the first round were Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross with perfect 25 straights. In equal third place were Will Rand and Giulio Fabrizio on 24 with Peter Kelly, Stan Cross and John Moore next on 23. The leading B class shooter was newly promoted Steven Rand on 20 with Peter Fabrizio next on 19. The leading C class shooter was Brian Kelly on 21 with Wayne Barsby and Rob Marshall in equal second place on 16.

At the end of the second round Wayne Barsby was in third place in C class on 29 but one point ahead on 30 in second place was Mark Sweetman, and taking C class by eight points was Brian Kelly. In B class Madeleine Simpson was in third place on 35 with Peter Fabrizio taking second place on 39, but winning B class with 41 points was Steven Rand. It was all square in A class with Paul Mihailovits, Michael Cross and Will Rand all tying on 49 points for first place with Giulio Fabrizio in forth place on 48 and Stan Cross fifth on 47 and making the top six was Peter Kelly on 45.

Seven shooters carried on to complete a 100 targets with Paul Mihailovits taking the honours on 93 with Dave Corlett second on 86 and Jeff Corkill third on 82.

Next week is the Meary Veg Skeet Medley consisting of English Skeet, Skeet Doubles, Manx Skeet and Olympic Skeet. Duty officers this week are S & M Cross.

Windy Start to Summer Leagues

DTL Round One

The first round of the Tower insurance DTL summer league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 21 competitors taking part in very windy but dry conditions.

The leader after the first round was B class shooter Calum Craine with the only 25 straight of the round scoring 74 points beating his dad Steven Caine by three points who was the leading A class shooter in second place on 71 points. In equal third overall were Arthur Hayes, junior Arran Wade and leading C class shooter Michael Cross on 70.

After the second round we had a three way tie for first place in A class between Steven Craine, Mike Parr and Arran Wade all on 138 points. Calum Craine claimed B class with 137 points with Rob Corlett second on 136 and dad David third on 133. In C class Mark Sweetman finished in third place on 116 points, in second place on 131 was Rob Marshall but beating them all and claiming overall high gun was Michel Cross with 143 points who shot the only 25 straight in the second round – well done Mike!

ABT Round One

In the afternoon the first rounds of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT and the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet leagues were held. Robert Watterson was the winner in the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league scoring 45 with Alan Wade second on 44 and Mark Riley third on 41. Junior Arran Wade was the handicap winner with 45 points

Olympic Skeet Round One

In the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league James Bradley was the winner with 46 points with Stan Cross second on 39 and taking third place with 38 points was Jeff Corkill. David Clague was the handicap winner with 49 points.

Last Round of Winter Pro Sporting

Kelly and Barnett close in on Faragher

The fourth and final round of the Pro Sporting Winter League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in calm and cool conditions, turning windy and cold for the second half of the competition.

We had a three way tie for first place after the first set of 25 with C class shooters Allana Wade, junior Zac Bellhouse and veteran B class shooter Peter Kelly all tying on 20, followed by the first A class shooters Mark Barnett and George Davies on 19. With the wind increasing making the targets a lot more difficult Brian Kelly finished in third place in C class on 28  with junior Zac Bellhouse taking second place on 29, but winning C class with her birthday gun was lady shooter Allana Wade on 31 points.

In B class Will Rand finished in third place on 31 points with Peter Kelly taking second place on 34 but winning B class, with his borrowed gun and maybe new gun, with 35 points and the best score on the day was Brian Faragher. In A class Stan Cross was third on 31 with George Davies in second place on 34  but winning A class with 34 points was Mark Barnett.

Winter DTL Almost Done

Wade Drops Just 2 Points

The third round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter series DTL league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 21 competitors taking part in dry calm but cold conditions.

The leader after the first round was B class junior shooter Joe Faragher with a perfect, maiden 25/75, in equal second place were seasoned DTL shooters Phil ward and Alan Wade who also had 25 straights but had two second barrel kills for 73 points followed by another junior Arran Wade on 72 points.

The leading C class shooter was another junior in David Cowin who also hit 24 for 71 points. Out of the 21 competitors 20 had scores of 20 and over, high scoring all round. In the second round Rob Marshall finished in third place in C class on 125 with Mark Barnett taking second place on 131 but winning C class with 137 was junior David Cowin.

We also had three unclassified shooters taking part with Mark Sweetman scoring 121 points, Calum Craine hit 139 points hitting a straight in his second round and veteran Dave Lally who had two 24’s for 141 points. In B class Peter Lowe was in third place on 132 with Stan Cross taking second place on 136 but winning B class with 146 points and second overall was junior Joe Faragher.

In A class we had a tie for third place between Steven Craine and John Moore on 141, with John hitting a straight in his second round, Phil Ward was second on 142 but winning with another straight was Alan wade on 148 – well shot Alan!
