English Sporting Teams – Men

The English Sporting team consisting of Alan Kinrade, Stan Cross and Micheal Cross secured Bronze with a score of 158 in the mens team event today, just 5 points behind Guernsey over a course of 100 challenging targets.

Missing out on third by 9 points were Paul Mihailovits and Rachel Bowen Matthews, whose score of 168 saw them in fourth place behind Ynys Môn in the English Skeet Team Open.

Meanwhile Mark Riley and Robert Watterson finished the ABT Mens Team event in eighth place on 136, just one point behind Åland and Western Isles, and two points behind Orkney.

Davis and Riley just Shy of Final

Olympic Skeet & Trap

Ted Davis and Mark Riley each finished in seventh place during today’s Olympic Skeet and Olympic Trap disciplines with 92 and 97 points respectively.

Meanwhile Giulio Fabrizio bagged 82 for 12th place in the Olympic Skeet, and Rob Watterson scored 93 to finish 11th. Both disciplines enjoyed difficult targets thanks to high winds and awkward light towards the end of the day on Guernsey’s west coast.

Father and Son in Kneen Shoot-Off

Men’s Sport Trap

Marty and Jack Kneen joined Isle of Wight’s Mark Downer and Jersey’s Greg Sanderson in joint third on 81 points, necessitating a shoot-off which saw Marty finish one point ahead of Jack to claim the bronze in Men’s Sport Trap at Mont Herault.

Meanwhile at the Portinfer range, some tough targets saw Ted Davis finish in 10th place in Olympic Skeet with 51, two places ahead of Giulio Fabrizio on 47.

Mark Riley and Rob Watterson ended their day of Olympic Trap neck-and-neck with Faroe’s Finn Ludvig on 57. Both disciplines consisted of 75 targets today, leaving 50 targets to go before the final.

Women’s Sport Trap saw Nicky Barnett finish in 5th place with 58 points, just six targets shy of a medal in her first Island Games – well done Nicky!

Watterson and Riley Scoop Gold in Guernsey

Olympic Trap Team Event

Rob Watterson and Mark Riley scored 164 to win gold in the Olympic Trap Team Event, beating Nickolas Dewe and Stefan Roberts from Sark by just one point on the first day of competition here in Guernsey.

Giulio Fabrizio and Ted Davis scored 143 to place fourth in the Olympic Skeet Team Event, which was won by Jonny Lindstedt and Fredrik Melin with 171.

Also in fourth place were Jack Kneen, Will Rand, and Marty Kneen with 148 in the Sport Trap Team Event, which was won by Dan Bishop, Mark Downer and Lee Pitman from the Isle of Wight with 170.

2023 Pro Sporting Grand Prix

The annual Pro-sporting GP sponsored by Pain and Patience, Nicky and Mark Barnett was held at Meary Veg Santon with 21 competitors taking part in dry but breezy conditions with a prize pot of £550 up for grabs.

We had a three way tie after the first layout between Michael Cross, Mark Barnett and George Davies with 21 points, Will Rand, Stan Cross and Brian Faragher were next on 19. After the second layout Michael Cross was in the lead on his own with 41 points with Mark Barnett second on 38 followed by Will Rand in third place on 37. Cross increased his lead after the third stage scoring 21 for a running total of 62 followed by Will Rand in second place on 56 with Juan Cowley now in third place on 54, Mark Barnett was fourth on 53 followed by Dave Corlett in fifth place on 52.

After the final layout we had the following results: The leading lady was Nicky Barnett with 53 points with the leading junior Joe Faragher on 69, 1st vet was Dave Corlett on 69 and the leading senior was Michael Cross on 81. In C class Mike Whitehead was third with 55 points with Roman Sammer second on 57 but winning C class with 69 points was Dave Walton.

We had to have a shoot off for third place in B class between John Moore and Brian Faragher which John won, second in B went to Joe Faragher on 69 with Juan Cowley in first place in B on 73. In A class Stan Cross was third on 68 with Dave Corlett taking second place on 69 with Mark Barnett in first place in A on 73. The runner up was Will Rand on 76 but taking the Pro-Sporting GP championship with 81 points was Michael Cross – well shot Mikey!
