Riley and Craine top Winter League

Winter DTL Round Four

The fourth and final round of the CU PLAS CALLOW Winter series DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 19 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first round was A class shooter Steven Craine with a perfect 25/75 round, in second place also with a straight but with two second barrel kills was Mark Riley on 73 points with Phil Ward and junior Joe Faragher along with B class shooter Rob Corlett in equal third place on 72. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Mark Sweetman with 23/68 with Will Rand in second place on 22/65 followed by Brian Kelly in third place on 20/65.

At the end of the second round we had Will Rand in third place in C class on 114 with Brian Kelly taking second place on 116 but winning C class with a very good score of 130 was Mark Sweetman. In B Class we had Stan Cross in third place on 129 then we had the battle of the Corlett’s for first and second and young Rob beat the old man by two points to take B class with 139 with his Dad David in second place on 137. In A class Phil Ward was third place on 142 points but we had a tie for first place between Steven Craine and Mark Riley on 144.

Corlett and Riley Share the Lead

Winter DTL Round Three

The third round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 13 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first round was A class shooter Mark Riley with a 25/73 straight, in second place also with a straight was B class Rob Corlett with 25/72, in third place on 23/68 was A class Mike Walker followed by A class Peter Lowe on 23/67. Leading C class with 22/66 was Mark Sweetman with Brian Kelly in second place with 20/59. We also had a new shooter Mike Thomson taking part in his first DTL competition which was good to see.

After a short break the second round got under way and in C class Brian Kelly finished in second place on 41/120 but winning C class with 43/127 was Mark Sweetman. Dave Corlett finished in third place in B class on 44/129 with George Davies taking second place on 47/132 but winning B class hands down was Rob Corlett who hit 49 for 143 points which was also equal highgun on the day. Peter Lowe was third in A class on 47/135 with Mike Walker piping him for second place by one point on 136 but also equal highgun and winning A class was Mark Riley on 49/143.

Riley Bags Post-Christmas Cup

2022 Club Boxing Day Shoot

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club’s annual Christmas Shoot and kindly sponsored once again by Top Spec Fencing was held at Meary Veg Santon in dull and very windy conditions but the rain stopped once shooting commenced.

The leader after the first round was C class shooter Michael Cross on 66 points with Steven Craine in second place on 63 points followed by Mark Riley, Mike Walker, Stan Skinner and C class shooter Brian Kelly in equal third  place on 60 points.

While the main shooters had a break the non-members took to the stands competing for the Phil Yewdell cup, and the winner was Chris McCabe with 48 points with junior Tom Moore in second place on 39 followed by Malcolm Darcy in third place on 36. We then had another junior in Lucy Faragher in fourth place on 33 with Ash Lewis and junior Percy Hampton next on 27 followed by Julie Faragher and Sarah Cubbon on 18 and in ninth place on 9 points was Sarah Faragher.

The second round of the main event got under way with the wind even stronger making the targets duck and dive more. In C class Wayne Barsby finished in fourth place on 69 with Mark Hepworth taking third place on 81, in second place on 117 was Brian Kelly but taking C class with 123 points was Michael Cross.

In B class Calum Craine was fifth on 96 with Giulio Fabrizio forth on 99, in third place on 102 was Mark Barnett, Stan Cross took second place on 108 but top of the B class with 114 points was Rob Corlett. In A Class we had a three way tie for fourth place with Alan Wade, John Moore and Stan Skinner all scoring 108 points, in third place on 111 was junior Arran Wade, we also had a tie for first place in A class between Steven Craine and Mike Walker on 123 but the Highgun on the day was Mark Riley with 129 points – well done Mark!

In the handicap section the winner was Brian Kelly with a total of 169 points in second place on 166 was Michael Cross with Steven Craine in third place on 133.

DTL Round Two

The second round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 13 hardy souls taking part in cold, damp and breezy conditions.

The leader in A class after the first round was Alan Wade who hit a perfect 25/75 straight, in equal second place were Phil Ward and Mike Walker with 24/71. The leading B class shooter was Rob Corlett on 18/51 with Stan Cross second on 17/50. Will Rand was the leading C class on 19/56 with Mark Sweetman in second place on 19/54.

After a short break the second round got under way with the wind now blowing stronger, lifting the targets and making the eyes water. Brian Kelly finished in third place in C class with 63 points with Mark Sweetman taking second place on 115 but the winner of C class with 119 points was Will Rand. Rob Corlett finished in second place in B class on 103 with Stan Cross in first place on 111. In A class Mike Walker finished in third place on 136 with Phil Ward taking second place on 143 (it could have been a different story if Phil had remembered to take his safety catch off for his first target of the day) but taking the top spot in A and high gun overall was Alan Wade on 143.

Sunny Start to Winter Leagues

DTL Round One

The first round of The Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL league was held at Meary Veg, Santon, in dry and sunny conditions.

The leader after the first round was Mike Walker with a 25 straight for 74 points in second place on 71 points was Phil Ward with Mike Parr in third place on 69. The leading B class shooter was junior David Cowin on 50 and the leading C class shooter was Alan Wright on 66.

After a short break for a cuppa and sausage bap the second round got under way but we had another delay as the first round leader Mike Walker was ready to shoot then realised that he had forgot to bring more cartridges for his second round. After the second round Alan Wright the first round leader in C class finished in second place in C on 111 but beating him on 124 was Rob Marshall. In B Class Jack Clague finished in second place on 101 with junior David Cowin taking B on 112. In A class Peter Kelly finished in third place on 131 mainly down to a straight in his second round, in second place on 140 was Phil Ward, who missed his first target out in his second round but one point ahead in first place was Mike Walker on 141.
