Hospice 2023 Chairman’s Report

Successful 13th Annual Charity Event

The annual Hospice Charity shoot hosted once again by the IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club at Meary Veg Santon. The main sponsors on the day were Laporte for the supply of the the clays, Eley Hawk for the cartridges used, NFU Mutual who sponsored the medals and Harrison and Garrett for supplying all the burgers, sausages etc.

With a full house of 80 entries the shooting commenced at 9am with each team of four going out in twenty minute intervals with the last team going out at 3-20pm. The teams were very mixed from experienced shooters to people that have never fired a shot gun before who were all supervised and coached by club members.

At the end of a long day we had the following results. The individual Highgun on the day went to Wayne Corlett with 46 points, the first senior was Neil Parsons with 44 points  who beat Rob Watterson, also on 44, on count-back, with James Simpson in third place on 39. The first vet was Paul Mihailovits on 45 with Peter Kelly second on 40 and Dave Corlett third on 39. The first lady was Nicky Barnett on 36 with her good friend Jackie Turnbull second on 28 with Sue Doyle third on 26.

In the junior section Rebecca Ormesher was second on 26 with Joe Faragher taking first place with 33 points. In the non members section Karl Waggott was third on 36 points with Richie Howland second on 38 but taking first place with 44 points was Joe Opitz. In the handicap section Sid Ludbe was third with 48.7 points with Lisa Pugh in second place also on 48.7 with Alan Scannell in first place also with 48.7, all these positions were decided on count-back.

In the team highgun section of the competition Paul Mihailovits, Peter Alton, John Moore and George Davies finished in third place on 141 points, in second place with 142 points were Nicky and Mark Barnett, Jackie Turnbull and Peter Kelly, but retaining there title of best team with 154 points were Stan and Michael Cross, Will Rand and Neil Parsons who collected a new cup presented in memory of Mike and Margaret Cross.

In the team handicap section third place went to Fred and Karl Waggott, Richie Howland and Wayne Corlett with 139 + 45 handicap for a total of 184, in second place were Mark Cox, Dave Walton, Rob Watterson and Mark Hepworth with 141 +44.9=185.9, but taking the gold medal were Amanda Haxby, Laura Harrison, Graham Smith and Sarah Cubbon with 26+161.6=189.6.

At the end of the event all the medals were presented by the CEO John Knight of HOSPICE IOM.

Kelly and Rixon turn up the Heat

Pro Sporting, Round 4

The fourth round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting League was held at Meary Veg Santon with twenty competitors taking part in ideal conditions.

The first layout on the right hand side proved to be very difficult but Dave Corlett was the leader with 21 points, in equal second place on 18 were Peter Kelly and Dave Walton followed by Paul Mihailovits and Mark Sweetman with 16 points.

The right hand range proved to be a little easier with Roman Sammer and Will Ennett tying for third place in C class with 23 points, second place in C went to lady shooter Nicky Barnett  with 26 points but taking C class with 33 points was Dave Walton.

Mark Sweetman finished in third place in B class with 30 points with Liam Kirkpatrick taking second place on 32, but winning B class with 33 points was George Davies. In A class Paul Mihailovits was third with 35 points two behind Dave Corlett in second place with 38 points but winning A class and highgun overall and the only person to break 40 was Peter Kelly.

English Sporting, Round 4

In the afternoon the fourth round of the Suntera Global Sporting League was held with 21 competitors taking part.w which also had the added incentive of The Ted Gohl Highgun trophy and the Brian Faragher handicap cup up for grabs

The leader after the first stand was unclassified Mike Parr with 9 points in second place with 8 points was Paul Mihailovits with Alan Wade third on 7. Mihailovits was in the lead on his own after stand two with 18 points followed by Alan Wade on 17 with son Arran, Peter Kelly and Mark Barnett next on 15. Mihailovits was still in the lead after stand three with 26 points followed by junior Arran Wade on 25 with Mark Barnett and Alan Wade next on 24.

Stand four and Mihailovits was still in the lead on 36 with Arran Wade and Mark Barnett next on 34 followed by Alan wade on 33. After the fifth and final stand Brian Kelly and Ed Rixon were in equal third place in C class on 30 points, Mike Whitehead was second on 32 with Mark Sweetman taking C class with 34 points. In B class Dave Corlett was third with 35 points, in second place with 39 points was Liam Kirkpatrick with Arran wade taking B class with 40 points.

We had a four way tie for second place in A class between Stan Cross, Peter Kelly, Mark Barnett and Alan Wade all on 39 points but winning with 43 points and taking the Ted Gohl Highgun Trophy was Paul Mihailovits.

It was a close thing to find a handicap winner with Arran Wade third on 54, Mark Sweetman second on 55 but winning the Brian Faragher Handicap cup with 56 points was Ed Rixon.

Simpson Crowned Skeet Champion

English Skeet Manx Championship

The IOM English Skeet Championship sponsored by Sadler Agricultural Supplies was held at Meary Veg Santon with nineteen competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

We had a three way tie for first place after the first round between James Simpson, Jeff Corkill and C class shooter Roman Sammer with 25 straights, in equal forth place were John Moore and Paul Mihailovits on 24 followed by Rachael Bowen Matthews and another C class shooter Mark Hepworth on 23. We had a new leaders after round two with John Moore and Roman Sammer both having a running total 48, next was James Simpson on 47 followed by Paul Mihailovits and Jeff Corkill on 46.

James Simpson was back in the lead after round three with his second 25 straight of the day for a running total of 72, in equal second place on 71 were Paul Mihailovits and John Moore followed by Roman Sammer and Jeff Corkill on 70. After the fourth and final round was completed we had the following results, in C class Mark Hepworth finished in second place with 82 points but winning C class with 93 points was Roman Sammer. Madeleine Simpson was second in B class with 63 points with Steven Rand taking B with 69 points. In A class junior Joe Faragher was second on 90 with Jeff Corkill taking first place with 93 points. John Moore was third overall on 94 with Paul Mihailovits taking second place with 95 points and winning in style with his third 25 straight of the day was James Simpson with a final score of 97, well done James.

Fourth Leagues of Summer

DTL League, Round Four

The fourth round of the Tower Insurance DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon in near perfect weather conditions which also had the Ian Faragher Highgun cup up for grabs.

The leader after the first round was junior Arran Wade with a perfect 25/75 straight, in second place on 71 points was Mike Walker with B class shooter George Davies in third place with 70 points, which was also a straight. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Jack Clague with 62 points.

After a short break the second round got under way and in C class Jack Clague finished in second place on 117 but winning C class with 120 points was Mike Whitehead. Rob Marshall was third in B class on 103 with Dave Corlett taking second place on 111 but winning B class by a country mile was George Davies with 130 points. Third place in A class was Mark Riley on 134 with Arran Wade taking second place on 139 but top of the class with 145 points and a straight in his second round was Mike Walker who also won the Ian Faragher Highgun Cup.

ABT League, Round 4

The forth round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league was held in the afternoon and the leader after the first round was junior Arran Wade again on 24 with Stan Skinner, Alan Wade and making a return to clay shooting Dave Walton on 23.

After the second round Dave Walton hit another 23 to finish in third place on 46 but we had a tie for first place between Stan Skinner and Alan Wade on 47.

The fourth round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league was also held and the winner was James Bradley with 40 points and tying for second place on 36 were Dave Corlett and Giulio Fabrizio.

A Long Day of Summer Sporting

Pro Sporting, Round 3

The third round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting League was held at Meary Veg, Santon with 27 competitors taking to the stands in near ideal conditions.

Unfortunately there was a lot of technical issues with the right hand layout but after all the shooting finished we had the following results.

In C class we had Sue Doyle and Brian Kelly in equal third place with 22 points, in second place on 25 was Nicky Barnett and taking C class with 33 points was Will Ennett.

Junior David Cowin was in third place in B class with 31 points with George Davies in second place on 33 but taking the spoils in B class with 37 points was junior Joe Faragher.

Alan Wade was third in A class with 40 points with Rob Corlett taking second place with 41 points but winning A class and highgun on the day was Michael Cross with 45 points.

In the afternoon the third round of the Suntera Global Sporting league was held with 23 competitors taking to the stands in ideal conditions.

We had a seven way tie for first place after the first stand with Arran Wade, Paul Mihailovits, Michael Cross, Mark Barnett, Rob Corlett, John Moore and Peter Kelly all scoring the maximum of ten.

Michael Cross was in the lead on his own after stand two with 18 points with Rob Corlett in second place on 17 followed by Paul Mihailovits, John Moore and George Davies in equal third place on 15.

Michael Cross was still in lead after stand three with 26 points with Arran Wade, Paul Mihailovits and George Davies in equal second place on 23 followed by Rob Corlett on 22.

Michael Cross was still in the lead after stand four with 33 points three ahead of junior Arran Wade and Paul Mihailovits  in second place on 30 followed by Dave Corlett in forth place on 29.

After the fifth and last stand in C class Ed Rixon finished in third place with 20 points with Alan Wright taking second place with 24 points but taking C class with 25 points was lady shooter Nicky Barnett.

John Moore was third in B class with 28 points with Dave Corlett claiming second place with 33 points but winning B class with 38 points and overall highgun on the day was junior Arran Wade.

Alan Wade was third in A class with 36 points but we had a tie for first place between Paul Mihailovits and Michael Cross  on 37 points.
