Rand wraps up Summer Skeet

The sixth and final round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English skeet was held at Meary Veg Santon with 22 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions, also with the news traps in operation.

Roman Sammer and Will Rand were the joint leaders after the first round with perfect 25 straights followed by John Moore and George Davies on 24 with Paul Mihailovits, Dave Corlett, Stand Cross, Michael Cross and junior Zac Bellhouse next on 23.

After the second round the final results were in third place in C class and making a welcome return was Peter Fabrizio with 43 points in second place on 45 was David Morgan but taking C class for the last time with 49 points was Roman Sammer.

In B class lady shooter Madeleine Simpson with 41 points with Giulio Fabrizio in second place on 44 but taking B class with 45 points was George Davies. We had a four way tie for third place in A class between John Moore,Michael Cross Stan Cross and Peter Kelly with 47 points with Peter hitting a straight in his second round . Second place in A class went to Paul Mihailovits with 48 points with Paul recording a straight in his second round but star of the day went to Will Rand who recorded his second straight of the day to take A class with 50 straight, well shot Will.

Wades Dominate Penultimate Summer League Shoot

DTL League, Round 6

The sixth and final round of Tower Insurance’s summer DTL league was held at the Isle of Man Clay Pigeon Shooting Club, Santon, and saw eighteen keen competitors take part in perfect conditions.

Junior shooter Arran Wade hit the ground running with the day’s only 75 straight in his first round, closely followed by Stevie Craine on 73 and Mike Walker on 72. Rob Corlett closed out the class A leaders with 68, just three points ahead of C class Jeff Corkill on 65.

Phil Ward improved on his first round of 63 with a healthy 72 in round two, followed by John Moore on 70 and Ted Kermeen on 69, with Arran Wade, Stevie Craine, and Mike Parr all sharing 68 apiece.

Wade’s earlier straight helped propel him to overall victory with 143 points, closely followed by Craine on 141 and Walker with 138. Per-class results are as follows, with overall league results to be published at iomclays.com as soon as they’ve been collated.

Olympic Skeet League, Round 6

The afternoon of October 1st also saw the sixth round of Manx Petroleum’s Olympic Skeet league, with five competitors making a final bid for league dominance.

At the top of the first round we find Jeff Corkill with 19, followed by Dave Corlett on 17. Stan Cross and James Bradley each hit 15 targets, while newcomer to the discipline Mike Whitehead reigned in a respectable 7. It was all change for round two with Cross and Bradley reversing their fortunes and scoring 20 each, followed by Corkill with 17 and Corlett on 16. Whitehead also upped his game with 10 targets hit.

ABT League, Round 6

Our third contest on this perfect mid-autumn day was the last of the Sadler Agricultural summer ABT league, and this time we had seven competitors battling it out.

Top of the pops with 24 hits in round one was Alan Wade, followed by Stevie Craine on 22 and Wade Junior, Arran, with 20. Mike Parr scored 17 while Ted Kermeen and Jackie Clague were in hot pursuit on 16 points, leaving Rob Corlett to plan his revenge from the back of the room with 15 targets hit.

Round two saw Craine score 23 points, followed by Wade Senior with 22, Kermeen on 21, and Wade Junior on 20. Parr and Corlett were on the up with 18 and 17 respectively, while Clague dipped to 13.

After two rounds of 25 targets, the top three are Alan Wade with 46, Stevie Craine with 45, and Arran Wade with 40 hits. Today’s handicap winner was Kermeen with 52 points.

Final Round of Summer Sporting

Pro Sporting, Round 6

The sixth and final round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting league was held at Meary Veg Santon in wet and cool conditions but it did not deter the 16 shooters taking part as the competition was shot from the shelters that the club have built over the past couple of years.

The leader after the first layout was John Moore with 24 points in second place on 23 were junior Joe Faragher and Peter Kelly followed by Rob Corlett, Paul Mihailovits, Will Ennett and Dave Corlett on 22.

Once every body had finished the second layout we had the following results, in C class Brian Kelly finished in third place with 40 points, but we had a tie for first place in C between Daniel Zorab and Will Ennett who both shot 43. In B class newcomer Ben Stembridge was third on 42 with John Moore taking second place on 45 but winning B class with the best score of the was junior Joe Faragher with 47 points. Paul Mihailovits was third in A class with 44 points but we had another tie for first place in A between Will Rand and Rob Corlett on 45 points, Will hitting a straight on the second layout.

English Sporting, Round 6

In the afternoon the final round of the Suntera Sporting League was held with 18 competitors taking part in damp dull conditions, which was  again shot under the shelters.

The leaders after the first stand were John Moore and Brian Faragher with 9 points followed by Paul Mihailovits, Will Rand, Arran Wade, Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly on 8. John Moore was in the lead on his own after stand two with 19 points followed by Paul Mihailovits, Dave Corlett and Dave Clague on 17.

We had a new leader after stand three in Paul Mihailovits with 27 points with Ben Stembridge in second place on 26 followed by six shooters on 24. Stand four and Mihailovits was still in the lead on 35 with Stembridge in second place on 34 followed by Rand and George Davies on 33.

The final results after the fifth and final stand were, in C class Ed Rixon was third on 26 with lady shooter Irene Stockil taking second place on 29 but winning C class with 32 points was Mark Sweetman. We had a three way tie for first place in B class between junior Arran Wade, John Moore and Dave Corlett all on 39 points. Ben Stem Bridge was third in A class on 41 with Will Rand taking second place with 42 points but top of the class with 44 points was Paul Mihailovits.

Another Skeet Cup for Roman Sammer

English Skeet Summer League, Round 5

The fifth round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 15 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions and to add spice to the competition the Cesar Leonetti Handicap cup was up for grabs.

We had a five way tie after the first round with A class shooters Rachael Bowen Matthews, James Simpson, John Moore and C class shooters Roman Sammer and Mike Walker (who brought his trap gun instead of his skeet gun) all hitting 24, on 23 were another two C class shooters in Mike Whitehead and Brian Kelly.

At the end of the second round we had Mike Walker and Brian Kelly in equal second place in C class with 45 points but taking C class with 48 points and joint highgun was Roman Sammer. Steven Rand was third in B class with 35 points with Madeleine Simpson in second place on 36 but taking B class with 37 points was George Davies.

Paul Mihailovits was in third place in A class with 46 points, who shot the only straight of the day in his second round, but we had a tie for first place in a between James Simpson and Rachael Bowen Matthews on 48 points.

The winner of the Cesar Leonetti handicap cup was C class winner Roman Sammer with 61 points.
